Re: Lenses for wildlife shooting
I just picked up the Nikkor 80-200mm and LOVE it. Need more power for the wild wildlife, though (meaning when I'm not shooting the critters in my backyard). Am planning to get the Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E II before our trip to the U.P. in a couple of weeks. Pushing it with the D70, I know, but I'll take the power… -
Re: Lenses for wildlife shooting
and to add to my question above, I'm looking at some nikon 80-200mm f2.8 lenses on ebay. I realise there are 3 versions available on ebay; an old model (pushpull mechanism), at standard model (the one im interested in), and a VR model. Two lenses on ebay that fall into the middle model, both claim they are in perfect… -
Re: Lenses for wildlife shooting
I will give you guys some feedback from the point of view of a rental company. Of the many groups of people who rent from us, nature/wildlife photograhpers are a sizable portion. For wildlife photogs on a budget, the 2 most popular lenses are, without a doubt, the Canon 100-400 and the Nikon 80-400 with extenders possibly… -
Re: Lenses for wildlife shooting
Great photos... Here is my contribution. I have two lenses for my wildlife photos: the nikon 80-200 f2.8 D and the Nikon AF-S 300mm f/4D IF-ED. They are both great lenses sharp and can be used without tripod although sometimes my shoots are not very sharp...It must be my shaking hands :D. I was thinking to get the TC-14E… -
Re: Lenses for wildlife shooting
Nikkor MF 300mm ED-IF f4 I just bought a manual focus Nikkor 300mm ED-IF f4 lens for only $350 (Canadian) and used it on my D200. I got amazingly sharp results on recent trips to Costa Rica and up Vancouver Island (British Columbia). Although I find noise/grain a bit awful past 200ISO on Nikon DSLRs, I'm happy I can… -
Lenses for wildlife shooting
Hi y'all, We got lots of pictures going up all the time but very little discussion about the lenses we use to get those pics. I thought it might be interesting to share our experiences about the glass we shoot with. The Nikon lenses I usually shoot with are: 500mm AF-S F/4D IF II This is usually my main lens when I shoot… -
Re: Lenses for wildlife shooting
Canon lens I use I use mainly the 500/4L and 400/5.6L. I haven't used the 400/5.6L for a while mainly because I would feel guilt after spending the big bucks on the 500/4L :D I often use the 500 in conjunction with extension tubes to get closeups of small birds or other small subjects. I use a tripod with either whenever… -
Re: Lenses for wildlife shooting
I want to say "thank you" to the many posters over the course of a year. I was going to post a thread titled "Going on Safari Africa ... how much reach and speed will I need?", but I don't think I need to now. Feel free to chime in and offer your thoughts however! But I think a 80-200 f/2.8 + 1.4TC and/or 1.7TC, or 300/f.4…
