Re: Sharpening for VERY large prints with 5DmkII
If this is the file? - http://www.jefftangenphoto.com/gallery/3641873_6qiyG#615455605_pqMvF-A-LB I wish I could see it in a more appropriate size to evaluate its sharpness. I know many files of foliage of mine, with lots of very fine detail, cannnot be appreciated at web display sizes, but only in print, so take comments… -
Re: Going on a cruise to Alaska. Considering buying either: 50D or Bigma (50-500mm Sigma)
We did a cruise to Alaska in the summer of 2008. It was one of the best trips we ever took. Are you just doing the cruise or spending any time on land? Based on your questions, this is what I would suggest:* I don't think it is worth it to go from the 40d to the 50d. * From what I have read about some of the newer cameras,… -
Re: Tamron, Sigma, or Canon lens?
You don't indicate what type of shooting you do, but here's the best I can do. The following observations are from actual owernship, as in I have these lenses :D Consider:* Tamron 28-75 f/2.8* Pros* Cost - least expensive of the set. But you already knew this * Optics - about as sharp as they come * Weight - quite light,… -
Re: Lens length equivalent? Converting from a crop to a full frame....
Hi tkeetch, Welcome to dgrin! The crop factor for Canon 7D style APS-C bodies to full format bodies is 1.6. which relates to the relationship between APS-C and FF lens apparent focal lengths. Hence, a 17mm lens on a crop body will match the angle of view of a 1.6x17 = 27.2 mm lens on a FF body... That is to say a ~28mm… -
Re: A One Way Trip Of Indefinite Duration
Our departure from Manila was uneventful - this time we lost only a small pair of scissors and a yarn needle at the security checkpoint - and we arrive in Bangkok just past midnight. From one of the world's biggest cities to another in just a couple hours. We find a nice bit of floorspace in the airport and settle in for a… -
Re: New HTML5 uploader hotness
Feedback on the latest version of the HTML uploader (and yes, this time I'm actually using the HTML uploader, not the simple uploader): * There is no way to initially pause the uploads. Why not justmake the Pause Uploads button active before dropping the first file in? I like to queue up a large upload, make sure I have… -

Re: Need help finding a great camera. :)
You got lots of really good advice since last time I looked, I agree with it all. The body is not so much important as the lenses. I will assume you are really seriously getting into photography for the long haul, in which case spending the bucks on good glass is worth the investment. I'll use my own thought processes for… -
>>> Nightpixels, People Photo Challenge #1 winner
Nightpixels won the people photo challenge #1: red. I asked him to answer a few questions, and this is what he told me: WHO ARE YOU? My name is Allen Parseghian, I am 38 years old, married with no children and I live in Southern California. I am of Armenian descent, if it were not already obvious from my last name (99% of… -
