Resampling and Resolution
I happened to be doing some reading ( always a dangerous thing for me to do ) and came upon the article with Andy ( http://www.popphoto.com/photonews/4353/get-the-results-you-want-from-online-printing.html ) talking about resolution and stuff like that.... Anyway - my ( limited ) understandingis that when you use… -
Re: tripods
This math was what led me to the Giottos MT9371. I'm 6'5". Subtract 4-5 inches from eye level to top of my head. Subtract 3"-ish from camera base to viewfinder, and another 4"-ish to account for the ballhead (Kirk BH-3 in my case). Then another inch or two so you can see the LCD on top of the camera with it on the tripod… -
Re: Question about Smug Mug Printing and PP
Hi, Steve. Thank you for your in-depth reply. The reason it seems each image has a different colorcast is because I set the WB separately for each image. I had just discovered Click WB and thought - great, this is fun - and obviously I had no idea what I was doing! Which is the way I've learned most things in my life -… -
Re: GOOD Lighting Equipment, on a budget
Yes the AB's are versitile...until you need to shoot on location...this has been my problem for a long time....it wasn't until recently that there was a good reliable inexpensive radio slave that I could use with a hotshoe flash.....I used to carry 4 studio flashes and over 1000' of extension cord with me all the time for… -

Re: Silly Self-Portraits
Thank you! Actually, thank you for bringing up the glasses--I was also experimenting to ensure I had no glare on them, after reading so much on these boards about that issue. I'd avoided photographing myself with my glasses on because of it. I used the "tilt the glasses down" trick in that first panel (upper left) to make… -
Re: Questions for Andrew Rodney
Well the test is far from conclusive and the damage isn't always inconsequential. First off, any data loss in an image adds up to the point where, depending on the image and output device, the result is banding. When will this happen? We don't know. We do know that these kinds of edits (all edits in fact) amount to data… -
Re: New Camera
There is a very wide range of $$$ you could spend. I have a D90 and love it (although I pine for a D300s), but that body would currently set you back about $900 without a lens. A D5000 uses the same sensor as the D90; you give up some functionality but gain the tilt LCD. That body sells for $630 at B&H right now. This is… -
E-sessions and the idiots who shoot them (me)
Mostly, I'd like to get all my thoughts in one place, but any comments are concerns would be lovely. [backstory] I was referred by a couple who I had shot an engagement session for (first warning, the couple was immediate family of my girlfriend). I shoot fashion and landscape stuff, I'm not a wedding guy, so that's fine.…
