Re: Rolex Kentucky 3 day event - advice?
:) I was there shooting for Equestrian Services, LLC and David and Karen O'Connor. Since I helped set-up their media launch at the Primedia tent last year they were very helpful :) I was shooting mostly for the Karen who was riding and David, who was coaching the Canadian team. Also, you can get right up close and (almost)… -
Re: Selective Desaturation why so HOSTILE?
Two different arguments This discussion has two separate aspects that need to be considered separately. One is acceptable in my opinion from a business standpoint, although questionable from an artistic standpoint. The other is downright shameful, and in my opinion the more frequent. Reason #1.) You do it because it will… -
Re: Polar Bear from Churchill
Thanks for the comment everyone. Some one asked me regarding equipment and the tundra buggy experience. So I thought I'll post it here too, it might be useful if someone thinking of going to Churchill. Regarding equipment and tundra buggy experience: I had with me three sets of camera D700 + 500 f/4 + TC14E + grip D90 +… -
Re: Display Calibration
For monitors, at the budget end of the $$$ scale, look to either the Datacolor Spyder3 Elite - about $180-90 at B&H. On sale recently for $148 at B&H. or Xrite i1Display Pro (new, replaces the i1Display 2) - about $250 at B&H last week. I've specifically mentioned these due you indicating that you are looking to a dual… -
Re: Trans-Caucasus
When we arrived in Tbilisi, it was about 7 in the morning, and the day was overcast, gray, and cold. Once again I wished we had taken this trip about a month earlier. We didn't have a set place to stay, just a few vague ideas, so we walked down Rustaveli with Michael and Simon. They were looking for a cheap hostel, and… -

Discussion of CS5 Pros and Cons
Richard recently posted his experience with CS5 - both good and bad - in another thread. I am taking the liberty of reposting his comments here so they do not get buried deep in another thread, because I think he offers much to think about and discuss. This is his post ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I've been using the trial… -
Re: canon 85mm 1.8 and canon 135mm f2
I agree with Craig Primes are great if you need to shoot available light. IMO, the operative word here is "need". If you are allowed, flash, creatively used will do a better job in most venues. Unfortunately many photographer's avoid the use of flash because they are not capable of using flash creatively. See Neil van… -
Re: Tools for Color Balancing
Chris, these are the ramblings of a color amateur, who pulled a few gadgets out of his closet, but did not think to begin with a professional market survey of all existing color balancing tools. I remember seeing a thread, earlier this year, about your device for color balancing, but I confess, since I did not possess one… -
Re: Top 10 Lies told to Naive Artists and Designers
Who answers these? Probably an aspiring designer, or someone just out of school trying to get anything completed so they can put it in their portfolio. A lot of times someone who hasn't gone the design school route wants to have some samples in order to get work, or someone in school who wants portfolio pieces. Or a person…
