Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Thanks for all the replies! Looks like it will be a whole easier than I thought. Guess I'm still thinking like a PC guy, you know things can't be that simple right? Every thing should be here next week so I'll let you all know how it goes. Had a bit of a billing issue with Apple and my credit card company last night at… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
The 17" HP notebooks have numberpads....and are a HORRIBLE product! I love HP, I really do, but we bought several of these 17" models at a company I used to work for and they do nothing but fail. They're just to big, heavy, and bulky to be considered notebooks. I'm sure if you left it on a desk all the time it would work… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
I'm no Mac guru, but I recently did the switcheroo from PC to Mac for my primary CS3 machine. Since I already had a 24" FWP monitor, it made it a littel easier. I went for the MacBook Pro 15". It has a DVI connection and handles separate calibrated monitor profiles. My main issue was storage, so I have external drives for… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Windows to Mac Migration Questions (long post) Time to get a new machine and I'm considering switching to Mac (gasp!). My current Dell Win2K laptop is six years old and is literally held together with duct tape. Despite the cost difference with HP, Dell and others--which is substantial--I am now sufficiently irritated with… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Rutt, Your drive is dying. It's as simple as that. The I/O error is a dead giveaway -- there are blocks that it can't write to. Ordinarily the drive would AUTOMATICALLY hide this from the OS so the fact that it's propagating through means bad things. Are you experiencing hanging (beachball) issues with the machine? If an… -

It's a link to d/l for this software. http://www.dxo.com/intl/photo/free_demo They sent me email for d/l page with trial version, Here is what email says: "For Macintosh users: If you see only a list of meaningless codes displayed on your browser when you hit the link above, you should set “Safari” as your default browser… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Yes, I had this experience as well. For me the culprit was DTD, which I spent way too much time playing anyway. On the MBA it was only a few minutes before it got really hot and after about 15-20 minutes the game became unplayable. I did, but it depends on what you want. I switched to the 13" MBP because the weight was… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Ugh! Looks like I need to get a new Mac and I am not sure what to do. I have an Aluminum iMac 20" 2.4Ghz C2D with 4GB's of RAM. My Apple Care expired in August, and since I have had multiple problems with my FW800 port as well as my USB ports. A rest of PRAM did not help. Originally, I thought it was my Drobo which was… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
One of the best bang for buck AMD chips you can get a hold of right now is the AMD64 4000+ (90mn/HT2G) It is a single core chip that beats alot of the multicore's out there. It also costs a whopping $79 bucks. It's and older chip, but it can still hold it's own against machines 2 years younger in most cases. Family… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
The nice thing about going the way of the MB/MBP with a large monitor is obviously portability. The MB lacks a real video card, and thus will eat up some of the RAM from the machine. That being said, it will push a 24" (1920 X 1200) without a hitch. The MBP has a dedicated GPU, and can push up to a 30" monitor. When I'm…
