Re: Poll: 1Ds Mark IV saga
The D4 might squeeze out 16-18 megapixels without compromising the D3S's level of low light performance, I bet. That, and I think they may change up the AF system a little bit, but if you ask me that's not really much to get excited about; Canon's 45 point AF is already stellar and I prefer how the cross-type AF points are… -
Re: Nikon 16-85mm midzoom lens
D00d...Like, you totally stole my line/Byline ( if I had one) I use that well worn phrase all the time...and there's a good as H reason for it: It Is True! You must minimally pay whatever you have to pay. I recently bought a lens from a guy, that I ended up using for a photo shoot and a Video excursion and paid the d00d,… -
Re: Help, used Canon 30D black points
Ok, I posted the photo here using Digital Grin insert photo option. But not luck. So, I went to my settings and used the photo in question as my photo in the profile section. Can't think of any other way to have you see it. Maybe facebook??? Anyway. Here is the link to facebook http://www.facebook.com/#!/?sk=lf Here is a… -
Re: Equine photography help needed
Are you going to be shooting a specific dicipline or a whole range of Equine material? Also where can you/ are you able to position yourself? Some SJ events I did I had to use long lenses from outside the fence. Other events I could go and stand right in the middle of the ring so a 24-105 was perfect. If you are doing… -
Re: Alaska Cruise in June - what do I need?
Done many cruises, but not been to Alaska. For shore excursions, standard advice applies: you are going to want a wide lens for in town photos, and landscape vistas. I personally would recommend a 10-20 lens. If you go into the State Parks, your long zoom will be good for spotting wildlife. Given you will be outdoors, I… -
Re: Travel camera
I get that. For classic headshots I'm in the 85-300 range. If portraits were a primary concern then I would take only my xt1/56 1.2 as that gives me an equivalent 85 mm look. I don't just take portraits at 35 mm. I do when I want convenience and don't want to carry around a bunch of stuff. Besides, if people are bothering… -
Re: Shooting a Band ( concert )
I'm assuming that the only fast glass you own is the macro based on the ones you listed and being that you have an APS-C sensor renting the 70-200 would put you way back of venue (depending on size) for any wide shots but would serve well for individual closeups of band members. If you have the run of the venue and are up… -
Re: Cannon 60D everyday lens?
Hi owllove, well, you have already gotten conflicting advice, so i will add my own two cents. IMHO, 50mm prime is not a good general purpose lens on an APS-C camera. A 50mm lived on my film cameras most the time, but that was a different field of view. On a crop sensor, it's too long. A normal-perspective lens on your… -
Re: Get a Sneak Peek at SmugMug's new design!
Thanks! Interesting that is is slower for you. Here in Germany its the other way around. Maybe because of this huge puddle between us... ;-) I know 500px & zenfolio, but they again cost money. And I have webspace anyway (because of email). And you are right, I dont need the commerce features. Still Smugmug has some… -
Re: Need Help With Photo
Personally, I would try to talk him out of using the staircase. Just seems like a bad shot with the amount of distance from the first row to the 4th row, the perspective would make the last last row way way too small! Also seems like an unreasonable amount of work given the black and white photo with instruments shiny gold…
