Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Yeah, you would certainly want to transfer as you shoot, not in batch. Otherwise you are limited by the WFT-E5A's limited bandwidth (802.11g, which has a realworld throughput of about 27Mbps.) If I haven't screwed up the arithmetic, that would translate to about 40 minutes for an 8 GB card. Since you can't multitask, you… -

Glad it helped. Now download and install (and pay the $8) Macaroni. Once installed, you don't need to do anything, but I would recommend setting it to delete localizations that you don't use. You can safely delete all of them if you're using american english. I set it to do that monthly. The rest of the settings you can… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Photoshop isn't going to scale with the number of processors beyond a certain point no matter what you do. But if you are trying to i2e thousands of images you just might get a linear scaling from 4 to 8 processors. Or run a couple of virtual machines at once. Or perhaps getting a huge shoot into Bridge or Lightroom or… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Fish, how long does it take to process a 20D raw file in C1 on you imac? Anyone else running C1 on a Mac? What are your processing times, camera and computer specs? My friend did a test today on his G5 Dual 2.5 and it took 7.5 sec/file for a 1DmkII to an 8 bit tiff, on my 1ghtz Powerbook it takes about 105 sec/file. I… -

TO, the high-pressure sales guy. Here's my problem, my wife occasionally logs into various things on her (EEEK!) windows machine. If I go making every password a 256 UTF-8 character string (or whatever), then she'll never be able to get into the various accounts. They do have https://my.1password.com/ in private beta right… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
If your files are so large that they would normally take up that space as scratch disk space. If not, then no difference. The Efficiency indicator in Photoshop is one way to tell. What I know I learned from here, where it says "We’ve seen 40% and greater speedups when running tests on big documents that hit the scratch… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Actually, just to set the record straight, right-click support has been in Mac OS since the mid-1990s at least. When Apple bought NeXT to create Mac OS X, NeXT OS already supported right-click. I've been using Macs with two-button mice for as long as I've been able, which might have been Mac OS 8 or 9. Popular Mac… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
:nono you are missing the point completely it's NEW, pathfinder! Well, that and this thing eats up files in Adobe Bridge like Harry with a plate of ribs at Virgil's! It opens up 5D and 1Ds Mark II raw files in the blink of an eye - 1 second, maybe 1.5 secs to open up in ACR, then 1.5 sec to open in photoshop as a 16-bit… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
I mentioned this over in the food thread, but thought it was worth a mention here. I recently bought MacGourmet and have been pretty happy with it. I demoed about 8 apps, and chose this one. In fact, I had decided against it, came back to it, learned more about it, and decided it was the best app for my needs. I bought the… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
I got mine through the refurb store I ended up with the dual 3.0/2Gb/X1900XT and am VERY happy with my pruchase I pondered the purchase for 2 months, and expected the model I bought to sell at any time, but it never did. I bought mine and expected the entry to disappear, but there was another on list immediately. They dont…
