Re: Need Serious Help: Print Ad My FIRST Sale EVER
Meghan, First of all, congratulations on making the transition to pro! Judging by your blog (which I really like, by the way), I'm about a month or two behind you now. (Shot my first paid portrait assignment in December, my business cards arrive next week, and my new "professional" website will launch in about two weeks.)… -
Re: My Chinese National Week
MORNING came to Liuzhou and we set out to look around while we waited for our bus. During these big holiday weeks, transportation can be hard to find so we got the only tickets left. Normally the front row of seats on buses (interestingly enough, the only seats with restraints) is not sold. On the right side, this is… -
Re: Need help finding a great camera. :)
You got lots of really good advice since last time I looked, I agree with it all. The body is not so much important as the lenses. I will assume you are really seriously getting into photography for the long haul, in which case spending the bucks on good glass is worth the investment. I'll use my own thought processes for… -
Re: What do you do for T&I?
Yeah, That's a really common one here too. I honestly don't understand why anyone doing this should run late. You set up whatever you need to, bring the kids in take the pics and say thank you, see you next year. I don't even run late when all the kids aren't there. One year I had 4 Teams standing round waiting for… -
Re: Actor Headshots
Those two are WAY more on the right track for him IMO, although obviously it depends on whether or not he wants to showcase the tat sleeve (and the makeup is still an issue). The first one is a decent shot - captures "sinister" and "a little off the beaten track" well and the expression is pretty engaging. The 2nd one he… -
Re: portable printer for outside shots
I only stumbled on this thread purely by accident. Normally there is only a couple of sections I look at, this isn't one of them. My suggestion for running a full size printer would be to get a car battery and an inverter. You can get a used battery from a wrecker cheap ( get a decent one, 80 min RC Min.) and an inverter.… -
Re: Help
* ISO 1600 on the 7D I guess is fine. It would be on the new 1D or 5D cameras for sure. * 1/2000 is OK! * Flash? I wouldn't but it might help - who knows... Lighting IS part of the problem here IMO. * Sigma 120-400, Not the best lens choice! It's about the right FL tho. 400mm x 1.6CF = 640mm Equiv. and that's close to… -

Independent Fabrication -- Manufacturing Bicycles in Somerville, MA
Lloyd Graves is tall, dusty blond, and has an incongruous Southern drawl, a leftover from a childhood in Mississippi. He founded and works for Independent Fabrication, a company that does something surprising: they build bicycle frames in metropolitan Boston. This might not have been surprising in 1920, but today making… -
Re: How did ya?
How did I start out? Well..... My Dad was a pro wedding photographer back in the 70's early 80's so I have grown up around photography. A few years back I purchased a Canon 350D (Rebel to you guys in the USA) with a standard 17-55 lens. My Dad gave me a few pointers beyond the basics that I already knew, I headed off to…
