Re: Wife says $1,500. What do I do?
Okay- non biased information is- 1. Figure out what you are going to be shooting primarily 2. What do you eventually want to be able to shoot 3. Price- obviously 4. Any gear/lenses you already own 5. Ergonomics- must go and hold the camera!! 6. Personal Preference- menus- live view- etc. Now to throw a whole new system in… -
Re: Need Help With Photo
Like user "jww" I strongly suggest talking the Director out of this shot concept. Trying to get light that is pleasing, plus the changing perspective, is just not worth the trouble. There may also be safety concerns, depending upon how many individuals are concerned. (You need to consider the load rating of the staircase,… -
Carmel Road Trip
Iz and I have been working like dogs for the past 10 weeks and really needed a getaway. Lack of funds, foreboding weather, unannounced visitors, and minor health issues couldn't stop us. Saturday morning we were up and packed and headed to Carmel for the holiday weekend. Our first stop was Santa Margarita. The was a park… -

Re: Smugmug Explorer: version 0.1.0.92
BTW: Compare this to.. If you compare the table above to a standard order details info availalble from the each order page (which, mind you, you can only get properly exported after some numerous and boring manual manipulations): <TABLE style="WIDTH: 340pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=453… -
Re: Does Smugmug consider this security issue a bug?
Um, I'm still failing to see why this is such an issue to be hyped up like it is. 1. Protect photos? From who? From what. It's a photo sharing website. Don't put any Top Secret stuff here OK? Common sense 101. Watermark it if you want to really prevent unwamted comnmercial use. 2. If the gallery is private and password… -
Re: High Pass Sharpening...
Perhaps not "everyone" Ric, however if one spends a short time reading about various sharpening approaches, High Pass filtering is mentioned by a lot of people on many, many different occasions! Reading a bit further, one may stumble over other approaches, such as "Band Pass" or "DoG". Many of these issues may be new to… -
Re: I need advice on a new monitor
The 204B uses a TN panel. Very important that you note this. As you are currently using a 20 inch monitor, do you have the real estate on your desk to go to a 24 inch or bigger? The HP LP2475w is indeed a great monitor! For reference it uses an H-IPS panel but without the polarizer (A-TW) of the NEC LCD2490WUXi. And… -
Re: How to Price your photos
The problem comes with too many photographers believing that the photography business is somehow special or that standard business 101 principles do not apply. As a photographer, you are offering a service first, and a product second. It truly is as simple as that. If a new store opens in your town, do they discount the… -
Re: IR wthout filters???
No, with digital cameras (or film) that are sensitive to visible light, you cannot take infra-red photos without an infra-red filter. The regular image will always supersede any infra-red image. So you definitely need a filter to cut away the visible light---an IR filter, that is. However some digital cameras are better…
