Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
I could be way wrong here. But I don't' think ppl understand that this machine is not supposed to be your workhorse. It's supposed to be ridiculously small so every one stares art you w/ envy and wants to buy one of their own. It's supposed to be ultra portable so you can be a student or professional that can actually work… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
I looked at a new PowerMac at the Apple store in Indianapolis. For grins, we wanted to try and make it stutter, and see if we could get the cooling fan to turn on.. We opened EVERY PROGRAM in its dock - 32 different programs, including Photoshop CS3, Final Cut Pro, GarageBand, Safari, iPhoto, etc. 32 programs and some of… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
I'm surprised there hasn't been any comment here yet regarding the Steve Jobs and Co presentation this week. I realise all three of the product offerings have been foreshadowed to a greater or lesser extent, but there is now an overall information architecture marked out by iOS5, Lion and iCloud (and the hardware products)… -

Disabling Adobe Updater? Hello All- I am still using CS3, not sure there is a reason for me to go to CS4, but each time I launch an application of CS3 I get the Adobe Updater failed report under Snow Leopard. So I googled it and found the directions at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408711.html and well they are not… -

My first test in Capture One. Twenty 1DmkII files converted to 100% High Quality JPGs. G5 DP 2.7 8gb ram, 265 sec Macbook 2.0 2gbb ram, 265 sec Exactly the same amazing. The Macbook actually seemed to render the thumbnails faster. I will have to test that more when I have time. The G5 does whoop it with ACR, same files to… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
On the other hand, if what you really want it the most processors / $, perhaps so you can run i2e over lots of images in parallel, there are cheaper solutions. For example, Mac Minis are about $800 and have two processors. So you get about 6 of them for $5k which would be 12 processors. The Core 2 Duo Extreme that's in the… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Yes, if you're running Aperture or Motion or playing games. I would expect with Snow Leopard, you may see differences in other programs due to OpenCL. The differences in speed are fairly clearly laid out on the "performance" pages on Apples MacBook Pro site. It's somewhat faster; it depends on the circumstance. IMO, the… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
The Pro arrived this afternoon in a big white box the size of a small motorcycle. So 8 days, but yeah, I have it now. I didn't need the conversion cable - the old DVI-I fit right in to the back of the card's big DVI connector, but upon first start up, the monitor wasn't recognised. After a second restart, it found the… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
So tonight I came home with the following: iMac 20" with the same amount of 'guts' as the first level of 24". The more powerful 24" is special order and 6 - 8 weeks away...:cry . I didn't want to wait... So, I decided on the 20" with a 23" apple cinema display. The sales guy figured that as a "prosumer" I might be better… -
Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Heh. No, that's perfectly normal. Honestly, Adobe sucks in many ways. I can really doubt the quality of software from a company who has incompatible HELP VIEWER applications (you can't read 1.1 help docs with Help Viewer 1.0, and vice versa), and who decides it's a good idea to put both of them at the ROOT LEVEL of the…
