Re: Convert GIF 89 to 87a ???
Looking at the content of a GIF, I see that the "GIF89a" is right in the very first bytes. You might try using a binary editor to change that to look like the earlier version. Or you might write (or pay someone to write) some code to make a utility to make the changes. I don't have a GIF87 to look at so I can only show you… -
Re: Lens upgrade dilemma--help!
I own both the 17-55 and 24-70L lenses I love both of them however, the 17-55mm has become my go-to lens for general shooting while I tend to use the 24-70L mostly in my studio. I LIKE THE 17-55MM BECAUSE: 1. It is lighter than the 24-70L 2. I don't generally need a wider lens (matches well with a 70-200mm L (series) lens… -
Re: I could use some recommendations
A couple of considerations for a monitor. First - with the Sony A700 (same body I use) you have the option to capture JPEG's in AdobeRGB mode or extract an image from a RAW file in the AdobeRGB color space. If you use AdobeRGB you really should look to a wide gamut monitor but those will run you about $500-600 for a 24… -
Re: Off camera flash and umbrella
Antonio, I think the white point setting paid too much attention to the bright window, and thus, the rest of the image looks slightly under exposed. Are these images tagged with an image space profile? sRGB, aRGB or whatever? The whitest pixels I see in the baby's left sleeve is only 219, 213, 220 - little too much red and… -
Re: Photography Workshop--Shoot Wild Utah with Marc Muench!
More on Recommended Fuji chrome film When I asked Marc what film might be good for what we're doing, he responded suggesting Fujichrome Provia 400 speed chrome film. I looked into that, and found out that Provia comes in Provia 100F, 400F & 400X. Paraphrasing the Fuji descriptions: Fujichrome Provia 100F and 400X are… -
Re: New zoom
I almost bought the 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS lens... I had the 70-200mm f/4 (non-IS) lens and was somewhat disappointed because I could not often hand hold the lens effectively in low light levels. Sure I could use a tripod or monopod which is what I planned to do when I bought the lens since at that time the mediocre 75-300mm… -
Re: Slow-Shutter Portrait Tricks
Hi Kelly. Thanks for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed them. It was a fun experimental shoot, and as a bonus - got the family involved and interested. As to your PW question. Certainly many people are pleased with the money they saved on the Cactus system and similar triggers, and have found them to be reliable enough.… -
Re: A little advice please...for a newbie!
I'd like to offer some advice from the perspective of a photo hobbyist who has been right where you are. Don't buy cheap glass. That's it. That's my big piece of advice. Having spent so much money on a camera you're going to be tempted to spend as little as possible on the lens. Don't give in to the temptation. If the only… -
Re: Laptop LCD Quality - are any comparable to pro/semi-pro monitors?
I'm not aware of any Sony laptops or any current production consumer grade (vs custom industrial or military) laptop/notebook other than the HP 8740w having an IPS panel. If you have an URL pointing me to specs confirming an IPS panel I'd appreciate you posting it here. If you haven't seen my posts here before, I try to… -
Re: Eliminating 4x6" prints
Square is the best format of all! For those old and experienced enough to remember and have used Medium format Film, 6x6 was THE cool format. My first MFwas a twin lens Mamiya which I sill have. I went on to Bronica then blad. Had 6.45 backs but only used them when shooing for some studios that wanted to skimp on film. 30…
