Re: CR2 Files.
Photoshop does not keep track of your images. Yes, you can file them in folders, various drives, floppy discs or whatever with Bridge. If you only have 50 pictures, that works fine. But when you have 50,000 - and if you shoot much digitally you soon will - then a database file manager makes real sense. Bob, I was just like… -
Re: Pele - Goddess of Fire
Mahalo! The sounds were surprisingly quieter than I anticipated, although I really didn't know what to expect. lol There was a lot of popping and crackling as the lava met the ocean, and then an occasional explosion, but not like in the movies. More of a muffled, underwater type explosion. Much appreciated, Boco! That's… -
Re: Family Photo Shoot
I think for that kind of area, a steady wide open aperture would have worked best. This might be my thing, but most of the images have too much DOF and not enough saturation for my liking. In my On-location shooting I find that the long shots (70+mm) are much more pleasing to the eye. When shooting wide (which I hate hate… -
Re: Is there "permanent" auto focus
Some Canon camera/lens combinations have a "lens" feature which allows the photographer to temporarily override autofocus by pushing a button on the lens. Primarily this is on very long lenses and I believe that you primarily use the button so that if you know that a foreground component moves between you and the subject… -
Re: Smugmug State of the Union...
I think for good or ill, the vast majority of us who have been around a while feel like it is completely pointless to vote or enter things there. I am not sure what would be best, but if you really want participation there, you have to do something to actually demonstrate the attention you say it gets. As a simple example,… -
Re: Canon 5DS/5DR
I think many people, including both megapixel fanboys AND dynamic range fanboys, are missing the point really. Some complaints I've heard have been along the lines of, "well how come you all praised Nikon for raising the megapixel bar to 36 MP, yet now Canon gets slammed for raising the megapixel bar again? That's a double… -
Re: Best DSLR camera for amateur in expert photography?
Photography is a learned skill and art, it is not about the equipment. You can learn photography with any camera, but it helps having one that assumes the photographer will choose settings, vs the camera doing it. I believe the best learning is done on a completely manual camera, but sadly, those really don't exist any… -
Re: Cardinals in the Snow
Denise, I am interested to see how folks react to the difference in the background bokeh of image 3 ( shot with 100-400v2 ) and image 7 ( shot with my 400DO + 1.4 TC ) The images really are pretty similar - a female cardinal on an oak tree with a background of dappled green Holly leafs and grey overcast sky peeking… -
Re: Where do I start? RAW, CS6, LR4
Welcome Barbara, another Hoosier!! I rec you shoot RAW, and start with Lightroom 4. Lightroom is easier to do Raw rendering with, and simpler to learn than PS. If you cannot get good images with LR, then it may be time to move on to Photoshop for selections and local image editing. If you want to edit with Smart Objects,… -
Re: Many, many questions for the pros.
Let me explain my track of "Dad With A Camera". I've been interested in photography since I was 10 or 12. Always taking photos with an old Kodak roll camera. Being a musican I was never home and girlfriends now wife were not really happy with that. All along the musician route I was taking photos of friends. Finally wanted…
