I was asked how I do it...
I've been asked to share how I've been fortunate to have some of my shots in CNN, USAToday and others. As you read this, please keep in mind that I don't mean to sound like this is the way it HAS to be done, rather it's just what I've done and it seems to have worked some for me. First, I take my camera EVERYWHERE I go. I… -

This past weekend, six of us got together for what has become an annual ride. The group is made up of mostly youngsters and us 'old' guys...hahahaha! You're as young as you feel :D Our route would take us through the Napa Valley to Eureka on day one. The next day found us testing the limits of traction (or some of us at… -

Re: Studio lighting - where to start
Many people recommend against getting flash meters these days, but I personally found that I learned a great deal about lighting and lighting ratios after picking up a good quality Sekonic and carrying it around with me for a week or so. As to what equiptment to buy, it really depends on what kind of shooting you intend to… -
Re: My Photoshop Workstation Plan
- Dual Core - SMP - Dual machine Ok, now this is an interesting idea. I could easily distribute the RAW processing amongst several computers. Computer #1 handles 1-100, computer #2 handles 101-200, etc. This would indeed be very easy. And this has given me something really concrete to go on. Thank you very much. Now the… -
Re: Too much light?
I think it would be too difficult to fix this shot in Pshop. It would require hours of work to get an acceptable image lighting-wise. On the other hand you could reshoot it in a few minutes. The biggest killer for me is the shadow on the face of the lady in the center. The light that was camera-left is too far to the side… -
Re: Promo shots... for me (C&C)
Absolutely NO offense taken Angie and, in fact, I'm extremely grateful and flattered you would take the time to give that kind of detailed critique! I'll answer your points below, but rest assured that I appreciate every word. Truly! Actually, the makeup was fairly light and geared for photo not stage (skin-tone-evening… -
Re: How do you get referrals?
Referrals 101 I have significantly more than a hundred referrals in a little over a year. They come from three main sources: 1) Friends and acquaintances who I tell about smugmug. 2) People involved in the events that I shoot who learn about smugmug from me (school events, kid's sports teams and boy scouts/girl scouts). 3)…
