Potter Wasp Ancistrocerus nigricornis Nesting
I am fairly sure of the genus but the markings are variable, so it could be another species. Yesterday morning was due to be a very hot day. My wife and I were standing in the back garden at about 8.45am when my wife pointed out a hoverfly on a flower. It was one of the smaller species but had a bright yellow scutellum,… -
FS: Acer Aspire 4520 laptop
I have a very nice Acer Aspire Laptop I need to sell. I bought this and a tablet to see which I would like better, and I am going to keep the tablet. It was purchased right around new year's from a major retailer. Great little laptop for the money, just decided my tablet was more useful for what I need. In Ex+ condition.… -
I think I'm ready to market! And I need some feedback, please.
Before I explain my plans on marketing, I need to explain where I live. I live in a small ski town (1500 people without tourists) and many people have told me that 90% of what happens is by word of mouth. I plan on marketing to both the locals and tourists/second home owners. The locals are VERY down to earth, easy going,… -
Camera backpacks for air travel (and day hiking)
Is anyone familiar with the F-stop Kashmir and Guru? Either would hold the camera gear I take with me when I travel, but the Kashmir is 1.5” longer in the largest dimension. Kashmir: 20.5”x12.5”x11” (52x31.8x27.9 cm); Guru: 19”x12”x10.5” (48.3x30.5x26.7 cm). I would probably take a 13” laptop in the backpack, but could… -
After my home fire
Several years ago while living in NYC, my roommate and I walked into darkness, horribly arid fumes, smashed windows, water all over - firemen had just left. The Super was there, most of the fire was in my bedroom and when I asked him what started this he said "YOU!, you left a fan on!" I was sure I hadn't but was so… -
Tackling the storage problem
Hi, I visit various photography forums. Something that crops up now and then is "I am going to Kenya for safari", "I am going to the alps" etc., so "could you suggest how many CF cards do I carry, I own 1GB card now" or "Should I get a video IPOD" or "Should I carry my laptop" blah blah. Now many of us do not own laptops,… -
How Can The Judges Pick These !!!???
Yes, these choices bewilder some here. It's been mentioned that there are different tastes. True but an understatement. We bring all of our experiences, thoughts and moods to these challenges as particiipants and judges. I thought if we could step back and think about another art form we might relate to "Different tastes "… -
Re: How do you sharpen photos?
Rutt's original post about sharpening is still worthwhile reading since Unsharp Masking has been the basis for "sharpening" via contrast edge enhancement for years, whether in Photoshop or in a darkroom. The jpgs your camera pops out so quickly, have already had this digital sharpening performed by your camera according to… -
Re: What's Going On With the Color Red?
All the data is gray. Its no more sensible than simply seeing the issue and trying to move a slider that describes what it is you're trying to accomplish. That slider is called Saturation in Aperture after which you can look at selective color tweaks. I can speak for Lightroom much better (I have Aperture, gave up on it).… -
Re: lens choice overload-350D
Angelica, I would seriously rethink your choice of Canon gear, given the fact that you already have a great lens with a Nikon mount. When I was trying to decide between Canon and Nikon (the 20d vs. the D70) I found that, despite the higher megapixel rate of the 20d, the actual images don't look noticabely different. It…
