Re: Alien Invasion :-)
David, here's the gist of it. What do I own: Profoto CompPact-R: 1x600w, 1x300w AlienBees: 4x800w, 2x300w Thus far I like the setup a lot. I use Profotos as main lights, since they can "hold" larger modifiers (7' octabox and 3'x4' softbox, which I often use as 4'x5" striplight by applying the fabric shades). ABs are rims,… -
Re: Vinegar weed flower
I can identify with several things you said. My reason for improving my skills or for acquiring better equipment is to get results where I failed before. I try to be as low-budget as possible. for years I used ultra-zoom all-in-ones like the Panasonic FZ50. I finally gave up on LCD viewfinder cameras and got a Nikon D5000,… -
Re: Chapter 5: The Key Is The K (pt 1)
First off, I'd like to thank you Edgework for your work. Since this area is one of the tougher ones for me, I appreciate the time you spent on this. A couple of questions do arise though (as always). First, to all, I'm not quite sure what the big deal about setting a total ink limit is. If it is in your default and is set… -
Re: First Attempt at Rodeo Shooting.
As to shooting rodeos, if your going to do it right, you need to be IN the arena. :jawdrop This also means you'll need to be credentialed to do so, and make sure you wear western attire (a requirement). This means, cowboy boots, long sleeve shirt & a cowboy hat. Oh, the hats a fun one, with a pocket wizard sticking up on… -
Re: My First Bald Eagle Shots
Yep, Bigma = Sigma 50-500mm f/4 - f/6.3. As I got more into long range BIF & Raptors, I realized that my Pany FZ5 and then the FZ30 were good for their price point out to 420mm but the allure of a dSLR with much better IQ, AF speed, low noise etc were what I needed. With my limited budget, I did a lot of due diligence and… -
Re: Help!!
Someone here will probably be able to correct my response if I say something incorrect, but I had a similar problem when I went to a dSLR. I used to be able to get really sharp macro shots with my macro function on my old point-and-shoot ZLR. Did you have a point-and-shoot before? I had a Fuji S6000 that did macro and… -
Re: A Vineyard Affair
Interesting take on this, Angie - but - First, these are 5 of 1600 images of the wedding weekend, beginning with the rehearsal. I in fact included a link to a gallery of about 140 of those images, including this one of the church interior: There are shots from the front, shots from the back, shots from down below. If I was… -
Re: Help guide me. Warning, long post.
I definitely think that if you're feeling lost, simplifying your bag for a while might be a really good idea. But, only switch systems if you prefer the CONTROLS, in my opinion. Bodies will come and go, Canon and Nikon will leapfrog each other and I'm sure the 5D mk3 will be nice and fast. Dunno if it will hit 8 FPS like… -
Re: After the Quake, After The Flood, After the Radiation
Thanks! The GH1 is a nice camera. It's not a fullframe or an APS-H/APS-C and the DR often shows it but it's #2 as M4/3 cameras go only beaten by the GH2. It's "better" than all other M4/3 cameras besides that tho - including the G2. As IQ and noise goes anyway. It's pros are:* It can be had NEW for under $300 (no lens). *… -
Re: The Osprey War, Commets Please
Thanks, Steve, I was wondering if I was asking a bit much of myself when he was far away. It is difficult to know when others are shooting how much is full frame or whether they took a little tiny bird, snapped it, worked it up, cropped it and had everything in focus with a very good eye (the first thing I check.) When I…
