Re: Where do I go?
Hey Shark, Have no fear, smugmug is user friendly! I know it may seem daunting at first, there are so many print options...two different print labs, tons of sizes, multiple types of paper, mounted vs unmounted, prints, merchandise, and digital images, oh my! <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/eek7.gif" border="0"… -
Re: Is something wrong with me/my flash?
It's a 420EX. Don't worry, I'm not insulted. ;) But yes, I always make sure to tighten the nut. I don't think it's settings, because a shot I took seconds before that one worked fine and I didn't do anything different between the two. This is copied from Lightroom: Exposure: 1/60sec at f/4.0 Focal length: 50mm ISO 400… -
Re: Photo Assignment for the Week: 4/16 - 4/23
rutt: Quite a bit of what I shoot now, I do without thinking through all of the steps, so you may have to bear with me a bit as I try to explain this. This scene was shot in one of my favorite place out in Pungo, VA. Knowing the area quite well, I knew when I wanted to be there to get what I was looking for. I also knew… -
Re: Get serious . . . on a budget
I guess you meant ../2196043-O.jpg and no I did not use an exif reader. I manually examined the embedded text using the UNIX command 'strings 2196043-O.jpg | more' ISO 100 1/350 f8 90mm focal length 70-200mm lens exposure Bias = -1 noise reduction 25 sharpness 25 saturation +10 contrast +25 brightness +50 exposure +1.10… -
Re: DSS #28 Circle or Square Unofficial Feedback Thread
Wow divamum that was quick you must have started early :D This round was really enjoyable to watch and participate in, I normally do not post a C&C thread because I find it hard to properly participate in the interactive process due to time constraints but I managed to do it anyway this time around and I am glad I did. So… -
Re: what does F1.8 or 1.4 give me?
In whole stops: (you do the math for 1/3rd and 1/2 stops!) Bold indicates breaks in the mathmatical patterns. Apertures (f-stops) 1 1.4 2 2.8 4 5.6 8 11 16 22 32 45 64 Shutter speeds 1sec 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/15 1/30 1/60 1/125 1/250 1/500 1/1000 1/2000 1/4000 Each step up/down is a "stop", and is simply a measurement of light.… -
Re: Idea #5
"Moonlit fence" how-to... Well, I guess it's too late now:-) First of all, those are two shots. One of the fence, an hour before the sunset, another of the moon, about three hours after the sunset. They happened to be on the same day, just different times. Also different lenses are used, but that's probably not a biggie.… -
Re: Balkan Express
I just wrote the GREATEST POST EVER. unfortunately, my logged in status timed out and I lost the text when I submitted it. Oh well. I'll recap short and sweet. Things to do around Mannheim Mannheim is located at the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar Rivers, as well as the point where three states; Baden-Wurtemburg,… -
Re: Zion
Thanks for the link Aaron. I'm sure it'll help. I've been working on the sites for about 12 years now. I'll never finish, but I don't mind. I just like learning about it all. I remember the print of snow canyon. It inspired me to take a peek from the overlook, but man, that place is big. I bought a book on the geology at… -
Re: Shooting a foot race
Brian, For a 5K race, you are pretty much stuck at the start/finish line. A fast competitive runner can be back in under 15 minutes, so there isn't much opportunity to move around the course (I'm assuming you are doing this alone). I also assume that most of your photos are going to be finish line photos that you will want…
