Re: Dad stuff
Well... I'm afraid I know just enough about video to be dangerous (and to occasionally produce a decent looking bit of footage). Here's a site with a pretty good (and reasonably understandable) explanation of what interlacing (and deinterlacing) means: http://www.100fps.com/ I'm afraid I can't offer anything terribly… -
Re: Change in SmugMug URLs for better privacy
*cough* :whew Thanks for all the feedback. We read every post and debated many of them internally. The status is we pretty much worked out a scheme last week that seemed to minimize unfriendliness as much as possible and we've spent a lot of time testing it on our test servers. Public and unlisted are the terms we're going… -
Re: First studio shoot!!!
Well everything went really well. I was very surprised with how well this little guy listened. He would pretty much do whatever we asked of him for at least a couple of shots. These are some of my favorites so far. The mom love black and white photos so I probably over killed this session with them, but hey that is what… -
Re: Work flow with Aperture. How do you do it?
I'm still on Aperture 2. :( But I don't expect my workflow to change drastically when I move to 3. Here's what I normally do after a day at the race track. I will normally have roughly 1700-1900 shots to go through from about 12 different track sessions of 4 to 5 different groups of cars. 1) Import all images into a brand… -
Re: Flash Question
I've never had a lot of luck with 'light on a stick' - likely because I can't operate my camera well with one hand. (D3+lens+SB-900+misc is like 10 pounds, include sweaty hands and it's hard to work it without supporting with my other hand) What I am currently experiementing a lot with is roughly the same idea, however...… -
Re: What Nikon Lens for Outdoors Maine?
Yes, I believe that you would do nicely with some lenses with both faster aperture and higher overall quality. I am a firm believer that wide angle lenses especially require very high resolution in order to be useful for landscapes. The reason has to do with the nature of what we are trying to capture at wide angle, often… -
Re: Justi's Abrasive LPS Critique thread
Thanks Thanks for the little mini critique. This was my first post ever to DGrin and second to a contest. It's definitely a learning process. I noticed my heart in my mouth, as well as my stomach, waiting to see any critique (I don't take it well, but have been learning to separate "me" from "my photo".) At least my photo… -
Re: Smugmug marketing department -- How to decide what to offer?
Good ideas that might be difficult to implement. The shopping cart has been much improved over the last 12+ months. More could be done, but its not quite as easy as it appears. I think SM has all the low-hanging fruit taken care of already. The standard prints list basically has print sizes that match off-the-shelf frames.… -
Re: D700 or The 5D mk11
Congrats on the D700, you will not be disappointed. I'd like to comment on a few points that caught my attention as I read through this thread. Eddy, if I've misread what you intended to say, forgive me, but you seem to be all over the place in your choice of lenses. It sounded to me like you were trying to decide between… -
Re: Turn up the color...burning tree
Thanks. Let's start with this version, then. By now we have quite a lot of tools in our bag from the Dan Margulis LAB Book Reading Group. I'll walk you through a few different techniques starting with the most basic. The originals of all these version are available. Let me know if you don't know how to get them. LAB Curves…
