Re: LAB: I'm a convert
This was really good, Andy. I didn't know you had it in you. For others who want to learn more, the basic trick here comes from Chapters 8 and 11 of the Dan Margulis' book, Photoshop LAB Color. Personally, I'm really really bad with brushes and so I'm willing to work extra hard to make it easy not to make a mess when I do… -
Re: ?Lighting outdoor group portrait? (10 people)
Dave, I found this reply from Chuck Gardner on DPReview. (I don't always agree with him, but in this case I think he's giving great advice.) "For outdoor fill flash which doesn't look artificial the best tools are a flash unit with HS flash capablility, camera bracket and a reflection diffuser. HS flash allows you to use… -
Re: Starter Umbrella lighting kit?
Ziggy, thanks for your detailed, very helpful response! Apologies for my long "absence" here ... I was out on vacation for almost two weeks,- including an incredible 5 days in Yosemite (wow!). Maybe. I'm currently not trying to make it into a large "second job" (due to family commitments), but I wouldn't mind establishing… -
Re: need advice on purchase of first DSLR
Thanks for the kind words as always Art To answer your question based on my personal preferences and experience: I am an avid Olympus user. One of the reasons I was drawn to Olympus cameras is their great size, and their amazing features for prices far better than the competition. They are light, slightly smaller than… -
Re: Which printer for an amateur with a D700?
I love printing at home. It was a bit of a learning curve dealing with colors and profiles. And I ended up getting a color munki. The munki was a good thing to get anyway. Brings you back to reality for your exposures and how bright images should be to print well. I bought an Epson 2880 that prints up to 13x19. I love it.… -
Re: still even more motocross.
another thougth. most tracks have a schedule. get one and have a look. If you've been asked to shoot, just purely for the sake of shots. you're obviously going for shots, not sepcific people. knowing the class's will help. better riders produce better shots, as shown by my bermbusting friend on the Yamaha. there is a LOT… -
Re: Nikon d70s CHA error
thanks for your input... I believe the card is about a year old and a true SanDisk 8 gb it came from a reputable dealer. I will try to attach the screen shot of what the computer reads it as. In RAW it says it can do 1.4 (I am assuming that means almost 1500). I also did the testing with a SanDisk 512 Mb. Card which is… -
Re: Hurricane Frances...
Doug, you and I are of the same thinking, and I have been through a devastating hurricane where I lost everything, back in 1989. Shopping for water wouldn't have helped much there. I do understand batteries, I am constantly talking "batteries", but I get them someplace fast. Gas is essential, or good to have, and cash.… -
Re: customer can't order prints
/// Bad to worse to all better minus time burned /// Andy et al. We'll when I first woke up - around 645 local - it was back to pulling my hair out as it certainly didn't work and worse, while the URL for my gallery connected to the right place, my main URL (http://www.digitaltasmania.com) did not - it went to the Smugmug… -
Re: Is it necessary to convert to canon?
The Fujifilm S5 Pro is really a camera with a mixed personality. It does have a rather incredible dynamic range, but only fully exploited in 12 MPix (interpolated) mode, and the RAW files are ginormous. The buffer fills quickly and write speeds to the card can be a real problem in a "candid" or photojournalist application,…
