Re: FF equivilent for 17-55 f2.8 IS?
I have the 5d and both the 24-70 and 24-105. They are pretty interchangeable for me. The 24- 105 is good and the lens I reach for first but when I am super low light - the 24-70 has it's place. I also have the 50 1.2 and an 85 1.8. My next lens will probably be the 16-35 but I don't feel the urgency because the lenses I… -
FF equivilent for 17-55 f2.8 IS?
So, all this thoughts about the 5d Mark II have me thinking... If I were able to go that route, I would need a lens that I can use on full frame for my wider angle zoom shots. The main two options I see are: 24-105 f4/L IS 24-70 f2.8/L I already owned the 24-105 previously, I could probably save some money on getting one… -
Re: FF equivilent for 17-55 f2.8 IS?
Another option is the Tamron 28-75/2.8. Its cheaper, ligher weight and just as sharp as the Canon 24-70 and I prefer the slightly longer range. Mostly when I need a faster lens that the 24-105 I shoot with primes but, after shooting with the Tammy for a day, I am considering picking one up for those times when I want a… -

Re: FF equivilent for 17-55 f2.8 IS?
Shima, Super-wide zooms have a place in wedding photography, but I believe it is as a special purpose lens. I use a super-wide occasionally to "establish" a scene or to show the overview of a sanctuary or something like that. A church exterior is another opportunity. For a standard zoom on a full-frame body the 24-70mm is… -
Re: FF equivilent for 17-55 f2.8 IS?
Correct, Canon does not currently produce a full-frame wide angle with IS and an f2.8 aperture. Canon would like you to purchase the EF 24-105mm, f4L IS USM. A friend of mine who does events uses the 5D with the 24-105mm and she does amazingly well with it. If it were my choice I would use the: EF 16-35mm, f2.8L II USM EF… -
Re: FF equivilent for 17-55 f2.8 IS?
I love my 24-70 on the 5D. I don't need IS in this case since I usually can snag the shot on ISO 800 or 1600 with 1/FL + 1 stop @ f/2.8. If your profile is correct, anyway you can get to Chicago? Go to Calumet on Goose Island and try the lenses there. And on the wide side, I love the 35L on my 5D for ultralow light. -
Re: FF equivilent for 17-55 f2.8 IS?
Re: Cat you can borrow my 28-70 2.8L to see what it feels like. I love how similar it is to the 70-200 2.8IS it is the same barrel just shorter! that is why the 24-70 would totally work i think for you... but the whole thing with the AF is fine b/c it hits infinity focus so quickly you can MF (which works better anyway a…
