Re: Margulis "Professional Photoshop, Fifth Edition"
Pathfinder, there is an easy visual way to see what is taking place! 1) Render out a raw image with no clarity settings. 2) Render out a second raw image, this time with clarity settings applied. 3) Layer the clarity image over the top of the base image in normal mode. Take a history snapshot for quick reference. 4) Change… -
Re: Margulis "Professional Photoshop, Fifth Edition"
Well, this theory got me excited for a while. But then I found out some additional information, follow this link http://www.ledet.com/margulis/ACT_postings/ProfilingandProofing/ACT-False-Profile.htm Here's my take-away: 1. Applying false profile IS applying a curve; think of it as a predefined curve, rather elaborate,… -
Re: Margulis "Professional Photoshop, Fifth Edition"
I see three advantages to starting with a false profile move rather than a curves adjustment. 1) Non-destructive editing. Using a false profile changes appearance without changing brightness levels. 2) Make subsequent corrections easier. An image that's too light or too dark is already at an extreme end of what can be… -
Re: Margulis "Professional Photoshop, Fifth Edition"
AH HA!!!! Rutt's Photo On Cover I thought that was his last night, I swear I had seen it before. Don't think it looked that good then????? (We are old timers at this dGrin!) Smile! It is the photo in the top right corner. I just researched Dan's book to find that information. On page 90, it is seen in the final making!!!!… -
Re: Margulis "Professional Photoshop, Fifth Edition"
ICC profiles only serve one role; the give RGB and CMYK numbers a meaning as I discussed above and allow you to produce new RGB and CMYK numbers from existing ones. As I said, G255 without a profile defining its color space isn't enough information to describe that color. With a profile, you can. There are a zillion… -
Re: Margulis "Professional Photoshop, Fifth Edition"
1. Ideally use color management (Application Manages Color) in the host application using a good ICC profile of that device (Epson supplies very good canned profiles). That will allow you to also soft proof (something far more reliable visually on screen assuming good profiles for display and printer). Then in the driver,… -
Re: Margulis "Professional Photoshop, Fifth Edition"
It's great to see this thread has revived itself. In some ways I'm at a much lower level than most of you (except if you look back a couple of years I'm the one who wrote that analysis of the LAB quiz in Dan's book. Several years back (when Dan's prior book Photoshop LAB Color was still on the bookshelves) I became quite…
