Re: Nikon D800 36mp $4,000 rumor
So basically, 36 megapixels full-frame would give us roughly the ISO and per-pixel resolving power of the D7000's sensor, just in a larger format. All I can say is, the EXPEED 3 image processor had better have quite a leap and a bound in it as far as ISO noise reduction goes, or I won't be buying a 36 MP D800 if it's got… -

Re: Nikon D800 36mp $4,000 rumor
actually, it was Sony that developed the 36mp sensor. Nikon doesn't seem to be doing much in manufacturing their own sensors as opposed to buying and optimizing other companies sensors. Personally, I wanted a 25mp sensor but now the idea of a 36mp is getting attractive. I will have to upgrade to a even faster computer… -

Re: Nikon D800 36mp $4,000 rumor
I'm still holding out for the D300 replacement assuming it gets released this year. My concern is that it's been in the rumor mill since about 2008 and I'm starting to wonder if the D7000 is in fact that replacement. if the D300 was 16mp I'd jump all over it, I want more than 12 but less than the behemoth 36 which is right… -
Re: Nikon D800 36mp $4,000 rumor
I think that for sure, if the D800 truly does debut at $4K, and has 36 megapixels, people will be eating up used D700's like they're gold at $500/oz. I don't envision the price going down at all. However, I don't "envision" the D800 as it is currently rumored anyways, so the point is moot. I'd happily be wrong though, as… -
Re: Nikon D800 36mp $4,000 rumor
Something tells me that the D800 won't be so limited to only provide 6 stops of dynamic range. Yes, pixel density has a slight effect, but for the most part with gapless microlenses these days it's just not that bad. I used to REFUSE to believe this, but now that I do post-production for a local studio I see thousands of…
