Re: Photoshop Scratch Disk...
Very few that I know of... and with IDE, you'd want to span the drives across several channels anyway, so the odds of finding a hardware raid solution that isn't absurdly expensive is pretty low. (Adaptec has a really nice sata raid card if you're looking for hardware raid... 16 ports, lots of features, 64bit/66mhz pci… -
Re: Are portable hard drives considered taboo?
It seems to me that Art Scott and I often think alike. I use three external hard drives. I will download my images to my computer using a card reader and cull the bad ones. I then immediately copy these images to hard drive #1 and then to hard drive #2. I do all my editing and playing around with the images stored on hard… -
Re: Solar battery charging the LP-E6 battery in a 5DMKii
As I continue to explore the use of solar panels, I have found two vendors besides Brunton. One I saw at the Overland Expo in Amado Az, and that is Goal Zero. They have a series of mono-crystalline solar panels with storage batteries and modified sine wave inverters that will work with AC 110 V battery chargers -… -
Re: D700, 18-200 and ISO 6400 Test Shots
There is no doubt, but when I want to travel light, not carry gear, and it's going to be low light, this is the combo I will use when I DON'T care about the pixel count, just the moment. The 85 mm will also miss some shots too. It can't focus within 3 ft and there will small minnows, crabs that will not be focused on. With… -
Re: Dgrin Meetups - Midwest & Central
Didn't see anyone I knew at the Blurb event. Eileen was there (Blurb owner/President) and she made a fine presentation and thanked all the artists and judges. About 120 people in attendance. The food, and especially the hors d'oeuvres, were outrageously fabulous. She spent a mint on this party. Each catagory of book… -
Re: Organizing Wedding Galleries - With Examples
Good points from both of ya'll - thanks for the input. You're right Scott, I think if I end up using all 12+ of my categories it would be too much. But usually / hopefully I can combine a few of them depending on how many pics I have that are 'keepers' in each section. And I like what you suggested by splitting out the… -
Re: Panning at Car Rally
Hi Everyone...new to posting here just thought I would give me .02 on the subject of panning. This seems like a good topic to bring back up. I guess the things to think about don't just have to do with the technical things with your gear, but what are you trying to create. Also consider where you're standing with relation… -

Re: My First Bald Eagle Shots
Yep, Bigma = Sigma 50-500mm f/4 - f/6.3. As I got more into long range BIF & Raptors, I realized that my Pany FZ5 and then the FZ30 were good for their price point out to 420mm but the allure of a dSLR with much better IQ, AF speed, low noise etc were what I needed. With my limited budget, I did a lot of due diligence and… -
Re: Mac or Windows?
Is it really necessary to get a laptop? You always get more bang for your buck from Desktops than laptops. I also think the miniaturization takes a toll on th workng life of the machine as well, although I have no data to back that up, it is a feeling. In the last 6 years I had 1 desktop PC and about 3 laptops. Thena gain,…
