Re: Rods or Cones: A discussion of B&W vs Color
When I first began shooting with a SLR (embarrassment time) in 1978-79, it was all B&W for me. I'd converted a small restroom into a makeshift dark room and would buy my film in bulk, filling my own canisters. I only returned to 'serious' dSLR photography a couple of years ago, starting out with colour but quickly… -

Re: Questions on the PW Mini and Flex
I shoot Nikon with pw flex units. I skipped the mini as it requires button batteries and the flex units use AA's. These units are great. You can have a flex or mini on the camera and either a flash or the ac3 on top of that if you want to control up to three groups of off camera flashes ( you only need an ac3 or flash on… -

Monpod Comparison -- Bogen .vs. Gitzo
I'm currently shooting with a Bogen 3249 monopod. After a couple of years of use, the foot wore out and the pod is filled with sand. Taking that as a very weak clue, I decided to look at monopods. What I ended up with was a Gitzo G1564L. I chose the L because I wanted to get more height as I found myself stooping for many… -
Re: The Square Thumbs Thread
Hmmm. I jumped to a false conclusion (assuming you'd done what I thought was needed). I guess square thumbs aren't ready for me then. For me, there's no way I'm using square thumbs until there's a bulk positioner. I take lots of people shots and square thumbs just look silly without manually positioning every single one.… -

Re: SmugMug Service Status May 10th PM
Mine is really slow also. I'm thinking it might be Comcast again<img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/eek7.gif" border="0" alt="" > But here is a traceroute anyhow. Re: 5DII vs 7D test, part 3
DxOMark (http://94.23.12.156/index.php/en/Camera-Sensor/All-tested-sensors/Canon) gives the 5D2 sensor an overall rating of 79, the 7D 66, and, I throw this in, the 40D 64. These tests are time independent since they are not feature dependent. They are among the most scientific available. They should give context to… -
Re: Email Address exposed to Spammers
In a perfect world, SmugMug would review it, but in reality they won't. What am I basing that on? Well, without knowing the numbers on either side, I'd say that there are at least 100x more vanilla SmugMug sites than there are Fastline SmugMug sites. That means that any security review they perform of the code used on…
