Re: Mk III Update: Just When You Thought it was Safe . . .
And Further Update I shipped the body via UPS overnight yesterday. Canon's Mk III repair center in Va. (yes, they have a dedicated Mk III repair center) received it at 9:41 a.m. At 3:31 p.m. it was picked up by Fedex for return to me, and they did find something mechanical in the dreaded sub-mirror assembly that they… -
Re: Any opinions on Dan Margulis's book, Professional Photoshop?
Ginger, Ginger. The whole point of Dan's work is that you shouldn't trust your eys or your monitor. Trust the numbers. I download the rose and used the color sampler in PS. The background is: R 0, G 41, B 38 L 14, A -14, B -3 We know this color isn't black because it has positive G&B values and becaue it has a positive L… -
Re: The only time I'm mad at smugmug
I've been following this thread mainly because I was curious - the processing times have never been much of a problem for me. I happened to upload a single image just now and thought "what the heck, I'll time it". As the 1 minute mark passed, I was surprised. At the 2 minute mark I got pretty annoyed. Here's the result:… -

Re: Help with HDR vs OOC for Printing
I agree. And while its not my image, I really think the original above is pretty damn lovely and some of the additional rendering tweaks I see here (on a color managed browser) look a bit over the top IMHO. But again, not being the image creator, its tough to figure out what more is needed to the top image other than… -

Re: Naples, Florida suggestions
The Beach Hotel is awesome. It is, as the name sort of gives away, on the beach. They have an outdoor bar, and live-music on Sunday, 6-9pm. Will you be there? The hotel is very close to downtown as well actually. They have a golf course across the street i believe if you are into that. If you have a car, you could tour… -
Re: I was a bump on a log

I really don't… -
Re: How to do PC Controlled macro photography with Canon S5iS or A510 ??
The Canon "ImageBrowser" software that came with your camera doesn't do this? According to the online pdf manual for your S5 IS, I believe it should after skimming over it. With your camera connected to your computer via usb, launch the ImageBrowser application. What your sensor sees should display on the screen and allow… -
