How about adding a link back to the Home page or came from page
from the maps. Clicking on an image popup takes you to its gallery
and you lose were you came from.

    Hi Allen,

You should see a link in each popup box in the map with your name and URL on it... no?

Also, we're not seeing the left-shift issue in IE. URL?

    Thanks,

    Don

The photo popup takes you to the gallery of the photo and hard to remember were you started at.
Just re-opened IE and not shifted now.headscratch.gif

Any chance of more then 150 photos. Is it showing the last 150 added?
    Looks great so far.

Wish I could make it do >150 photos, but unfortunately, browsers (especially IE) start to croak with too many little flags on the map.

I may let you configure how many you'd like and just let you deal with the complaints when you crash your visitor's browsers, but probably not. :)

We'll continue to play with it, though.

smugmug keeps getting better each update! Lovin' it. Agree the 150 thing is a bit of a pain though, esp if you've travelled the world, but then uploaded 200 local photos. Maybe some clever coding that picks 150 with the least overlap? Dunno how difficult that would be, then when you zoom in, you get rid of those that aren't on the map anymore?
Not just for around the world, but for the main maps too. E.g. if you go to maps.smugmug.com at this precise time it looks like there's no photos from Africa or S. America.

Don't think many people mind the 150 limit, as long as it's the most relevant 150, rather than the latest 150. Nitpicking though! Keep up the good work...

Does this only work with our .smugmug.com address? What about our domains? It does not appear to work for mine. headscratch.gif

If 150 is a problem then the bulk geography edit function that we have been asking for becomes more important. I just had to go back and correct 40 photos that dropped the '-' in front of the longetude. I have never been to khazakstan :-)

I would also like to see the ability to geo tag galleries and or albums. In some cases I would rather see one point on the map for an entire gallery or album.

Maybe set it up so that only one photo per gallery/album is plotted on the hompage. Then when you zoom in or go to the gallery/album level you can see the individual photos mapped. That actually would be really cool. Imagine having a map on each category page so you can see the galleries in that section plotted.

This is a wonderful feature, keep up the good work.

    "Around the World" crashes IE
So I put in the Google Maps API key, and it works fine with FF. But I loaded my URL with IE, and IE pops-up an error "IE can not open the internet site http://digitalmason.smugmug.com. Operation Aborted"

Now, I have a std account so no customization here, all I did was cut and paste the Google API key in the little box.

Any way to move the map lower on the screen? It is not first, before any galleries or even the new "Favorite Photos'. I can't do any customization, just would like to rearrange the stuff on my home page.

When you get the key, you have to do it for the custom domain, Doc... Here's my homepage (not what you see on live site, I use CSS to hide the homepage, but here's what it looks like:

    Andy,

When you get a minute, can you kill the API key? I cannot see a way to do it in the SM interface. I guess you can only have the SM.com or the custom domain and not both at this time?

As of todaay I notice that my 'map this'-button on my homepage is gone while Erik's is still there. I didn't change any of my customizations today and suspect this could be related to the 'around the world' thingy. :uhoh
I tried removing the around the world from the homepage and then bringing it back, but it won't show up. I haven't signed up for a google maps API key yet and thought this is optional.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

Around the World does not work in IE6

    Same here.
When 'Around the World' is shown on my homepage, i get the same error message and an error page is shown. This is in IE6 only. It works fine in FireFox (through FF i could remove it from my homepage).

    Update:
Strange... When the 'Around the World' section is in my control panel, it works fine in IE6.

    I can confirm that :D
First go to your site www.mydomain.com. Log-in and provide the site for the API key.
Then go your site as myname.smugmug.com. Log-in and provide the site for another API key.

That's it. Both are registered by Google and working when needed.

I second this vote. We have HOW many things crowding our main page now? I count: my bio, around the world, popular photos, featured galleries, gallery categories, keywords, and for some users there are friends & family and/or photo communities. That's SEVEN items on the main page, and as far as I know, less than half of them have an "order: move up/down" link next to them. To the best of my knowledge, ONLY gallery categories and keywords can flip-flip their position. This is pretty limited I think. Maybe I have to do it with CSS? That would be fine, just let me know how...

When 'Around the World' is shown on my homepage, i get the same error message and an error page is shown. This is in IE6 only. It works fine in FireFox (through FF i could remove it from my homepage).

Ditto, Andy. IE6 seems not to like "around the world". To the control panel with ye! Please let us know when this is fixed, or if there's something conflicting in my own site that messes it up. (http://matthewsaville.smugmug.com/)

Take care, and thanks for thew new feature! I only wish I could put it (and pop photos) down at the bottom with my keywords, where it doesn't take the emphasis off my featured galleries and categories!
