First you need to get your facts right. I did not make this rule. It was added back when Llwellen was the mod. That was over 2 years ago. Second is that this is not the first time you have done this. It is extremely difficult for us mods to have to dq ppl, but its extremely time consuming for me to have to go through and fix all the titles especially when we have larger amounts of entries.

Post number 996 was on its own thread for over a month with a manditory must read in the title for all challenge participants. Also this rule is written in the entry gallery for about as long as its been in the rules. I cannot see how difficult it is for ppl to comply with a simple rule. Your previous infractions were changed by others. I made my warning post and last challenge was the first time I had to dq someone for it. I really do not like doing it but it was written in the rules for a reason.

Hopefully ppl will learn quickly and not repeat the mistake. As for spaces between the dashes, that is not important. Having dgrin name - title is important. I cannot make ppl come read the rules, however I will hold everyone to these rules.

You can either hate me as a meany or you can respect me for applying the same rules for everyone. Nuff said.

Why is this rule important again? Might help if we understand why the titling matters. We certainly don't want to chase anyone away for what many might think is a trivial thing.

Having held contests myself I understand the rules. They consume a large amount of time to run, rules help reduce the time spent. New members entering will have their ID's confirmed with a copy and paste for a search, if spelled incorrectly it does not warrant a search for the correct name by the person for actual prize notification if placing a top 5.
Quote:
The reason this was written in as a rule and not a suggestion is that we need it to be this format in order to copy and paste it. It does not say to use a ~ or -- or : or ; or ... for a reason.
Now imagine if 30 percent of the people did not follow the formatting rules, the person running the show will then need to correct each by hand consuming even more time.

Lets not forget they also have to end the current challenge, start a new challenge, check all EXIF of each entry and photos used, plus user names... then create a link to each image and copy/paste the "name - title" for the voting poll thread.... then update the "The DGRIN SHARP SHOOTERS (DSS) Challenges (Quick links to all things official) README" thread, and the archives... 80+ participants can really take some time!

Then.... notify all the winners and prepare their names for acceptance into the mega challenge! (which requires twice the work during a mega)

One thing I did notice is the "Winners Gallery" has not been updated in quite some time... I'm not sure why is stopped, but no one should receive flack for it anyway.

If a single person has to correct all the entries to make sure they are eligible, the amount of time needed will start to result in regret for taking on the task (while also running their own business), only to regret having to find someone else to keep them going or let them end.

There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to keep challenges running.

Find the explination in this post...
http://www.dgrin.com/showpost.php?p=...&postcount=996

No sense in me beating a dead horse, this was discussed at length when it first was written into the rules. And has been brought up a couple of times as a reminder. I just am not going to spend the time fixing it for all those who choose to ignor what is written in the rule anymore. Any other competition I have entered that was not dgrin, there was always rules that specifically said how you were to enter with names and such. They wanted a certain format. I do not see why this is so difficult for some but hopefully they are quick learners.

Thanks Troy for your understanding and explination. We must have been writing our responses about the same time. I appreciate your answer. I really do not like to dq ppl. But this is a little rediculous that when we do all we can do to keep ppl informed, short of pm'ing everyone (which in my experience so far even that has not helped for when I pm'ed for this infraction the round before this.) I just do not have the time to spend anymore time on this. Rules are rules and if they do not want to follow them, then they will get dq'ed.

As for the winner gallery. I am aware it is lacking quite a few. Sean got behind with his work schedule picking up, then when I took over I have yet to find the time to go back and update it completely. Maybe I will when I get back in town.

I knew it! Congrats, Lillian for a perfect Rockwell rendition! The poses of the singer and pianist and the muted background are truly in the Rockwell style. The cat is the perfect final touch.

Congrats to the other finalists! Well done. I really enjoyed all of the entries this round.
