Yeah, you're probably used to vBulletin 2.xx and this is 3.0. One reason it took so long to get dgrin going is I've been waiting for a stable version of 3.0 and a few days ago we finally got it.
Quite a few differences, eh? One thing I'm not sure I like is having the posters avatar and stuff be on top of the post instead of to the side, but I thought I'd give it a chance.
Also, the clap smilie doesn't seem to animate here.

The clap is animated here, Safari 1.0.1 (v85.6)
I was thinking the same thing with the avatars and info on the top. The reply window is much better that ADVrider it is about twice as wide.
I'm an administrator on the MOA Forum, running the earlier version of vBulletin. This is pretty nice and it looks like we ought to think about upgrading as part of the MOA web site overhaul.
This looks excellent. Congratulations on finally getting it up and off the ground. Unfortunately, in the area of photographic knowledge, I'm a bit of a lightweight - so I'll be more in the "take" category vs. the "give" category (much like my sledding abilities).
Anyways, I believe this is just what we needed (but didn't think to ask). Thanks!

vBulletin 3.0 is a HUGE change from 2.x and probably almost two years in the making, so the switchover was tough for me as admin and will cause some adjustments for users.
Although some sites have experimented with beta, few have really done much with 3.0 in terms of styles because nobody wanted to go to all the work only to find out your decorations got messed up by the next release.
So I had to set all the colors, make all the buttons, etc., or just use the lame defaults. Nobody really sells buttons or skins yet.
When I get some time and after I finish the last bits of this style, I'll make one that's dark text on white background. Then when new skins come out I'll add them as options.
I have seen a couple of boards who make the body of the post on the right and author on the left. I may experiment with that but thought we should give it a chance this way for awhile to make sure we weren't just used to the other.
Sure, I understand completely. And my problem was compounded by a work monitor that's too dark to distinguish the shades of grey that I now see, after brightening it up considerably. I think I prefer the side avatars because with that style, each box is clearly a new post.
BTW, the site looks great and reflects your hard work. I'm looking forward to learning a whole lot.
problem here
I just registered but can't get my avatar accepted. It's the right size and will upload, but I can't "unclick" the button to change from "no Avatar". What am I doing wrong??
TIA
Got my avatar in now.

Hey Doh!
Welcome! I think we have a smilie named for you.
You know....I was just trying to add a bio shot for my profile and couldn't get it to stick, but I already have an avatar. You have a bio shot but can't get an avatar going. I'll bet it's a bug or configuration error on my part setting it up. I'll muck around over the weekend and see if I can figure it out.

Thank you Baldy for the new site, rock on. I had the same problem with the bio shot. I tried that after I could not get my avatar to stick.
Finally got home and am using Mozilla for the first time to view baldy's handiwork. With a better monitor, I can now see the very discrete shading that's being used to distinguish between the boxes.
However, using Mozilla, the smiley box over there to the right, is cut off halfway through the third column of smilies. Odd.
The "more" link works fine, and that window is normal. Can't believe this smiley made it across, though! :stfu:

Yep, same in Netscape 7.1 - get the whole thing in IE 6. Also, for whatever reason, vBulletin appears, to my eyes anyway, a little cleaner in IE - a pain coz I'm trying to wean myself off IE
Ditto on moving away from IE. And I'm eagerly awaiting the next skin for this site... especially at work, the black on black is hard to differentiate, needs a better monitor than they give me.

This should be fun!
I have a bunch of stuff from Tahiti to sort through, perhaps you guys will end up being the first to see it.
Thanks Baldy for the new geekhaven!
Nicely done, mang!

I'm not so keen on the avatars atop the posts. Does v3.0 allow for customizing the view, so I can change the black background?
Apparently I need boundaries in my life, and I don't see enough boxes etc. in the threads here to visually organize things for me.
