Spotted this cranefly on the wall in the living room (#1) trapped it with a glass and piece of card I keep handy - which happened to have some honey residue on it from a previous bug encounter (#2, #3) - the cranefly promptly started mopping up the honey and theb started cleaning off it's mouth feelers (#4, #5). I set it free outside after.

Until you see these creatures up close like this, it's hard to comprehend just how unique and wonderfully created they are.
It's eyes look way too big for it's head, love the exteme closeups

Thanks- using an MPE-65 lens and no it's not cheap . You can get similar shots using ext tubes on a more normal macro lens or for more magbification a reversed 50mm lens on the front. An MPE-65 is just a whole lot more comveniant to use (goes from 1:1 to 5:1 with no additions)

Thanks
see what you mean about #4
It's odd some bugs look much more friendly close up but others look a whole lot more nasty
