Buff Bellied Hummingbird

While I was taking pictures of some of the birds, green jays, long billed thrashers, chachalacas, etc...a buff bellied hummingbird came near the water feature at the Visitor's Center at Laguna Atascosa NWR. It still was some distance away from me even then and of course small so I was leaning over the fence, stretching outward taking these pics. All have flash except for one, the second one, as the leaves and branches at this water feature block out almost all natural light.

    Stephen-
Awesome pics! I'll have to get down to the Valley one day soon and check out your birding haunts. I tried to get some shots of the Black-Chinned hummers in my mom's yard this morning but was unsuccessful. Your captures are superb!

Wonderful set Stephen...I have never heard of buff belly humming birds when I read "buff belly"...I instantly thought of humming birds with really good abs...a six pack perhaps.

wow, that is soo nice, Love the last one.

Thanks. I was really stretching on that last one. I think I had stepped onto one of lower beams of the wooden fence and leaned even farther over to get closer. I thought I was going to fall over at one point. rolleyes1.gif

Thanks Dan. Out there Arizona, I bet you have quite the variety. In Texas, it is pretty much either a ruby throated or black chinned hummingbird unless you go to the Valley or the coast where you can catch some different ones, especially during migration.

Well my haunts are actually up here in N. Texas where I live, but I try to get down the Valley at least once a year. I think I am going to try to do it twice a year now though if I can afford it with ever-rising gas prices. There is a ranch in Dripping Springs that I like to visit too which isn't too far from you.

Now this made me laugh. I could just see hummingbird with ripped muscles and a six pack! Thanks for looking.
