D3 Wide angle selection ?

Well I have had my D3 for about 4 months now and absolutely love it.
I also bought the 24 - 70 2.8 and the 14 - 24 2.8. Both incredible lenses..However after a trip down the to the Bahamas, I found myself using the 24 - 70 for all of my early morning photography as the 14 - 24 doesnt accept any filters. So my Vari ND + the GND's were always being strapped to the 24 - 70...A great lens but I found it a little tight for the early morning stuff...
Any suggestions on another good/great wide angle lens for the bag ? Something I can use with my filters ?

Cheers

Dave

The Nikon 17-35 2.8 is a terrific piece of glass and works well on the D3.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

The 12-24 does accept filters of the 77mm variety.

I am sure the VND is a screw on......so I cannot make a suggestion but for the GND's .....if they are of the cokin type you can just hold them in front of the lens......I have done this with various filters over the years as it ttok to long to have to attache the filter holder to various lenses.

Yeah. I am having trouble with that concept :D Just when you think you've found the right lens, you see "DX" on the label :D

Yep the VND is a screw on...and the GND's I have are the Singh-Ray Pro 4X6's and dont cover the entire lens of the 14-24..even worse is the 14-24 has the built in hood which doesnt allow you to place anything directly over the lens...I guess this was required b/c of the curve of the front glass.
Its an awesome lens but for some of my early morning stuff I find it a bit limiting..
I have done a bit of reading on the 17-35 2.8 and its definitely seems to be a great lens. Will prob add that to the bag.

    Thanks for the advice..

Yup.. it is a great piece of glass and built like a tank. ..as Harry said, it works wonderfully on the D3. The only thing I have ever regretted was the price tag... but really good glass always costs more.

Thankfully my girlfriend is very understanding! thumb.gif

    Good luck!

Thanks for the input...I am now numb to lens prices...As soon as I see the #'s 2.8 I know it wont be cheap..

Looks like locally its gonna cost me $1600 canadian...

I am off to Newfoundland mid August and will probably buy it just before I go..

    Thanks again.
