I also like the B&W, but I've been on B&W jag lately so I'm a little jaded. Somehow it seems more visceral. The color version is a little soft in the contrast department, there's no rich dark tones. (Easily corrected using levels)
I really like the last version, somehow though my mind is looking for a little more of a platimum tone in the highlights of the chains. That said it is still a very captivating image no matter how you tone it.
beautiful contrast here and tones. I keep looking at it though and I start to wonder what it would look like if you got behind the chains and pointed the camera toward whatever it is in the right side of the photograph? Is there any way to do that? something about it as is doesn't repeat enough for me.
Wow, I'm really impressed! What an improvement! I love the high contrast and the shallow DOF with the second layer in the background an the contrast between things mechanical and natural. Very cool.

You have two patterns, the chains and their shadows. The B&W allows you to see the shadow pattern better than the color one.

I personally prefer the toning in the first B&W over the second.
