Create your own fotoflot?

Has anyone tried doing this? I like the idea of fotoflot, but the prices are just more than I can pay for the time being. I'm thinking of something like mounting shots on black foam board and then somehow using standouts to hold them out from the wall.

I know people here love fotoflot, and I'm sure htey are a great company so I don't want to take anything away from them. I just can't afford that much at the moment.

Would love other peoples ideas on this or other interesting ways of displaying pictures on a wall!
