Gjevilvassdalen (Devil Valley directly translated.. :P ) is a mountain valley close to my home town. I went for a hike in the mountains surronding this valley today! Got some pictures I like, C&C as always appreciated :)

Really like #2 and #3, but the series as a whole is strong. Looks like a great place to live near :D

I like #10 a lot. These make me want to go hiking in the mountains, I guess that means you've succeeded in capturing the scene thumb.gif.

Thanks guys! Really glad you like them! :D

This area is great, and photographers are few and far between. It is kind of weird. You have to hike 2-10 hours to get to nice spots, but other than that, the area is filled with mountains, lakes, steep valleys, green hills.. I guess the fact that Ansel Adams never walked here plays a part, but still :P All that have the chance should visit Norway :D

Laughing.gif... I love #7. Just when you think you're alone in the wilderness, something has to slap you in the face and let you know that man/woman has left their mark... My dad and I always make a point to stop and remove these blemishes whenever we can as that is the LAST thing we want to see when in the wilderness. :D

Great photos though! I wish I had a place like this close by.

Thanks for your comment! :D I'm just glad we don't have lots of garbage and human litter around, I think we met only one other hiker on our 8 hour hike, the feeling of desolacity (is that a word? :P ) is great!

its funny how different everyone is. i see these all the time and quite enjoy them. ive never stopped to do one myself, but i would l think if i did one with one of my kids and they returned 20yrs after to find it and it still stood they would get a great feeling seeing it again.

i came across one in bryce canyon made into the shape of a heart and i really would think it would be tragic for someone to distroy it.

i see both side of the issue, guess we all live together.

I can absolutely see that side of it as well Aaron. If my kids wanted to make one, I would grumble about it, but ultimately probably concede to their wishes.

Where I am, if I go north towards Superior, I see one about every 500m along a road or a trail (this is not an exaggeration). I even trekked in 12km to a remote beach spot along the coast of Superior to fish for steelhead and sure enough... I guess I'm pretty jaded though! mwink.gif

My father is a professional forester and I have followed in a similar professional because of my love for the outdoors. It was his belief that you left things as you found them. I was basically raised camping in the interiors of parks all the way up past Chapleau and into the Hudson Bay area (when I was a child). I used to take for granted the lack of human sign anywhere, but now it just seems depressing at times.

But, like I said earlier. I think if its something you don't see too often, I can understand why it can be neat! :D

Here in norway, the rule is to put the cairns on the tops of mountain, and there alone, most as a marker to say "here is the official top". I can understand that a huge abundance of them can be a large annoyance. We do have a mountain called Varhø (roughly translated: cairn peak) where you can find a quadruple digit number of them I think.. :P
