Thanks Ladytx! I really appreciate the time you always take to type out a comment for people!
Give what you want to receive for what you do shall always come back to you, good or bad. Don't we all want some attention, approval, recognition that we are alive and participating in this world, reviews, help to grow, learning, challenges, new ideas, etc. Why else are we here? I look at the first page in this forum and see the amount of views compared to the amount of comments and can't help but be amazed. Why are they all here if not to participate and be a part of? To leave a post with no comment seems to say, "You don't matter" or "your post is not worthy of my time to comment". I don't feel worthy to actually critique someones photo but I can at least say what I like or would change about the photo from a "consumer" point of view. Or give some encouragement and recognition.
Nicely done. Very eye-catching. I find myself wishing for more leading between the lines in that bulleted list, though, so it doesn't look so smooshed together, with ascenders and descenders from letters overlapping. Same for the quote in the upper right, where "play" and "Bach" overrun each other.
Slightly more nitpicky, in the "Lessons" oval, a touch of space above and below the "for voice and piano" and some above "Now available" so "Anchorage" isn't crowding the prices. Perhaps fixing the curve/slant on that line will add that smidge of space on the right.
Sorry--I edit layouts for a living. It's a great design. The crowded text just makes me feel a little like I'm being yelled at. A bit more space and this will be clean and readable in addition to being eye-catching and snazzy.
Ok, Kerry. So how is this!? (I need someone like you around, I am always making things like this and I need a layout editor to tell me what I am doing wrong!)
- I could not figure out how to warp the curve for "now available in Anchorage" to match the slanted oval. The oval is slanted for a reason, just to draw your eye up to her name and to create a "circle of text" around the central part of the photo. I suppose I could unslant the oval, but it seems to really take away from the visual energy of the design. My compromise for an unmatched curve was to make the height of the "Now" side a bit more than the "Anchorage" side. Let me know if I accomplished what I needed to with the hack job I attempted. (if anyone knows how to get photoshop to do that, sing out!)
-Are the ascenders and decenders happy enough? I am running out of room, as I am sure you noticed. My one bother about it is to make the font big enough so it is readable from about 2 feet away, and yet small enough to preserve the lead space, and still keep the bulleted feel, with separation between each bullet. I tried putting lines in between but it made it worse.
THANK YOU SO MUCH Kerry! I really appreciate you spending your personal time sharing the wealth of your knowledge. I needed to know all those things, cause I bet I make those mistakes all the time, without even knowing they are mistakes!

Well said! My problem is that I am such a chicken, it took me a looong time to feel like I had something to say that people would appreciate. I am getting over that, and now comment regularly. But you are right, encouragement is important. As are comments! They are like food to us on Diggrin.
The bulleted list looks mucho easier to read, and you didn't have to sacrifice point size too much. Very nice!
I actually preferred the way you had the Bach quote in your previous version (it took up just the right amount of space and felt balanced), just those last three lines overlapped (play, itself, Bach). An easy way to solve this might be to use the leading from your previous version--it worked really well for most of the quote--and just insert a couple spaces after "itself" so it isn't quite flush right but won't look misplaced. So the top of the "f" scoots away from the "y" and the bottom of it moves away from the "h."
Regarding the curved text, are you familiar with the "type on a path" tool? It's in the text tool flyout. You could duplicate the oval layer (Ctrl/Cmd + J) then select the type on a path tool. Place the text cursor on the oval path where you want the text to begin, click once, then type. (Be sure to duplicate the layer first, though. Once you click the path to begin typing on, all color fills and outlines for the shape/path are set to "none.")
It can be hit or miss on placement, so I usually try adding spaces or changing the alignment (left/center/right) to make it look correct. But it will curve along the oval path perfectly.
And I didn't mention this earlier, but I adore your color scheme! Clean, bright, professional, with just a bit of spunkiness. Fits your photos--and her personality, from what you've mentioned--perfectly.
I really like it. It’s definitely eye-catching , good colors and very nicely done! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Agree with everyone great series!
#2 is my favorite also followed closely by #4!
#5 seems to have a slight green cast on her face (mainly in the area around her left eye) I assume from the wall.

I love looking at your work. These are fantastic. On the ad at the bottom where the tear offs are, did you intend for this to look like piano keys because that it what I see and I like it

Yay for that info- I have been wondering that a long time! So do you do copy editing for Nasa? I remember reading somewhere you work for NASA.... (Hopefully I didn't get you mixed up with someone else! )
Thanks for your help Kerri! I THink we are going to get it perfect!
I agree about the colors - fantastic! You've done a wonderful job with this, Heather. It's so professional and I'm so impressed!
Thanks! I like the colors too. She was super pleased that I chose the green since she is majorly into green at the moment. It works since it mirrors the grass and her curtains.

Well, that is what we are going for, so yay! THanks very much for the confirmation that we are getting there!
You say that, but if you could have only seen us whine while we figured out we had to haul the thing back inside after a long time of shooting! It was fine, because fortunately we had changed placed to shoot at the last minute (while hauling) because our first choice was like 5 times as far from the house!

Thanks Evory ware- You are right about the green- from her curtains! But she always was a big jealous...so it might be natural. (just kidding!)

That was the plan.. and it worked! Thanks for pointing it out! I just put boxes around every other one to creat that illusion. (And lines for accuracy in cutting!)
Sign me up for lessons!!! Will she travel to Florida?
You two make a great creative duo!
Not sure! But I would love to come... I am dying for some honest to goodness sunlight! (and disney world might be fun too!)
I got a call from someone actually trying to sign up for lessons this morning...
She saw did a search for piano lessons in this area and came up with the pictures, and wants to hire both of us- me for photos, and her for lessons! Woot Woot! Fun! Now I have my sis talked into a website, since she got web advertising results without ever intending to! Pretty cool!
wow those came out great! I would never think to take a whole ginormous piano outside to a field! haha looks wonderful!
Actually the edge of a lawn- The lawn is behind the piano, and this is the hillside behind it! We had to prop the legs of the piano up with firewood because of the hill- but it worked!

You're welcome. And yep, I edit a magazine for NASA. You got the right gal.
Heather, these photos are even more stunning looking the second time around. I love your layout, the colors are just perfect. You received some good suggestions from Kerry!
