THE EVERYDAY MUNDANE
Too often we look for the "amazing" photo to come to us. Let's turn the table and make the everyday boring object and actions we do become exciting.
Identify an everyday boring object or activity that typically doesn't excite or inspire you. Now make it exciting. Look for a new angle to shoot from; a different way to light it, crop in close; do something different and make the boring visually stimulating. Better yet...can you make a story out of it?
Here are a couple of examples I came up with. (I expect yours to be better than mine (which should be easy)...more creative, more engaging!)
=======================
I wanna see some creativity!! If you are stuggeling with the idea, crawl on the ground, stand on a chair, do something different and think outside the box...or maybe inside it. Have fun and do something different!
=======================
This challenge will run from Saturday, July 26th - Friday, August 8th (Midnight) Eastern Standard Time.
and the winners will be announced Saturday, August 9th
I'll post the winner in a new thread titled: <<< MINI CHALLENGE #8 Winner >>>
~~~~~
*GENERAL RULES*
1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and you post 1-3 images. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter.
The 1st place winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner and passes on the baton to the new champion.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some criticism, put an asterisk (*) next to the title of the image.
Guidelines:
1. When posting your picture in this thread, change the Subject of your post to display your picture title. (not really needed)
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
* The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.
* Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
* Please remove any photos from previous posts.
Gumby and Pokey were on top of the world back in the 60's.
Life was good.
But soon, the kids that had bought the toys had grown up, and this new thing called pong came along.
Gumby hit rock bottom. He started using drugs, and running from the law.
One day his luck ran out and was arrested for possession, and was sent to jail.
After a few years in prison, Gumby found God and changed his ways.
Pokey was there to pick him up after he was released from prison.
Although his popularity will never be what it was, he has his health, his best friend,
and the royalties from the old show.
What more could you ask for?
Hows that for a story?:D
Let's keep the photos coming. For those who are still thinking about whether to enter or not...just do it. I promise I will provide at least a critique of one of your photos if you enter multiples (not that my critique is worth anything, but hey...there is nothing more I could offer.)
If you are struggling coming up with a shot, ask a child for ideas. Or get on the floor and crawl around. Climb a ladder and look around. Keep your eyes open tomorrow as you are getting ready for the day and notice the "every day" items you use or things you do. Then shoot them. Light them creatively. Get under the object, above it, an ants perspective, inside it. Something different you have never before thought about yet. Shoot it 100 different ways then pick the best and enter it. I would love to see 100 entries!!
To you Lurkers...welcome aboard!! Jump in. What a great place to start. Easy subject and a promise of a review. All of us started fresh at one point. A lot of kind people here. Friends to make. Photos to share. Things to learn. But it is up to you. You have to take the step. It is fun to watch from the stands, but the game is on the field. Grab your camera and join us!! We anxiously await your participation!!!!
Welcome to the contest eyeguy! Here is your hint...
To make your photo appear in the thread, click on the little icon at the top of the entry box that looks like a mountain with a sun in a yellow sky. That will bring up a dialog box. Paste the url of your picture location(http//:...) into the box and click "OK" and wolah! You have a picture. Just make sure you don't have "http://" twice. I then like to click on "preview Post" just to make sure it worked before I submit Reply.
Hope this helps!
What have you learned today?
Ya done good!
I shot this for this challenge, just hoping for a little different view of something pretty mundane. Seeing it on the screen, I thought the small blob of peanut butter had an animated quality. It looks like the proverbial "little guy who couldn't keep up with the big boys." He just didn't quite make it to the sandwich in time to be saved (er, "eaten").
I cleaned up a few shiny spots, converted the main image to B&W, and duped the blob layer to give it some substance. Otherwise, the little blob is just how it came out of the jar. Any C&C? Thanks, Lauren
