Mpix vs. Wolf/Ritz Camera vs. ...?

Hi,
Has anyone here ever ordered prints or other products from Mpix.com? I know there are tons of places online to order prints from, and this is just one that I happened across per a suggestion of a local pro photographer.

Wolf/Ritz Camera is a local shop where I can avoid paying S/H charges, but I don't know if their quality is as good on digital prints. I used to get my film printed there, but that was 4+ years ago when there weren't as many options for me.

Feedback, input, any ideas?
Thanks! :-)
- Holly

Locally, my best luck has been at Sam's and Costco. The locations local to me use really good printers and will work with you on softproofing - you can even find a profile for most of theirs.

Wolf/Ritz always over-saturates whatever I give them. They don't seem to know how to leave a picture alone.

I have been totally happy with them. Shipping is $1.50 on orders of $10 or more. Quality is top notch

Er, umm, since this is the Smugmug forum, have you considered ordering prints from, well, Smugmug? Print quality from Smugmug is superb - at least the equal of Mpix (I have compared prints from both). If you are already hosting your pix with SM, ordering prints for yourself is easy. If you aren't, you should be.

Quality is getting to be less of an issue when choosing a lab because so many labs, including costco, are cranking out such great prints.

Price is another issue to consider when choosing a lab. M-Pix is a little high on prints. We fulfilled one T&I print order with them, the quality was as good as we are getting elsewhere but they sucked up a lot of profit. We use them for photo buttons for our T&I orders because they are so cheap but that's about all. I wish Smugmug would get a little more competitive with their buttons.

If we want super high quality for an important job we will use a local lab in metro Atlanta so we can walk in and speak to the owner if we need to.

    Thanks,
    Marty

I have used Mpix for some things and they do a nice job. I use probably 5 or 6 different online labs and a few local, depending on if its bulk, a certain size, etc. I have tested and compared multiple labs and quality usually isn't the biggest issue. Most of the good ones give you a choice of auto color or no color correction of your order. I have found which sites I like for canvas, 24x36 posters, bulk 8x10, 12x18's, etc. I don't use one for all. Smugmug is good for a hands off ordering from customers but there wholesale prices are way, way to high. I mean 3.99 for an 8x10 when there are sites out there for 1.49. That $2.5 a pic starts to add up if you are doing 20 pics. That's $50 profit. Way to much.
