Upload is very slow

I am trying to upload photos. Earlier this year, I was gettign consistent 54 Kbytes/sec upload speed, limited by my ADSL. Now, I am instead getting very irregular speed, hiccupping from 0 to 40 Kbytes/sec, and the transfer blocks altogether after some 5 minutes (I am uploading some full-resolution images). Is this normal? It is making it very difficult for me to upload content. Luca

    Hi Luca,

Sorry you're having trouble uploading! It sounds like you may be having some connection issues. We'd be happy to check that out for you.

We have a number of tests that will help us determine where the problem is happening. The first is a speed test. Go here:
    http://smugmug.speedtest.net

We are the Yellow San Jose pyramid. Please let us know what the results are. You can post the results here, or email us at the helpdesk.

Two of the most telling tests are traceroutes. We've got a handy tool to help us see the connection quality between you and SmugMug. Go here:
    http://www.smugmug.com/homepage/traceroute.mg
You will see the results on your screen and also receive an email with the results that you can send to us. This is from SmugMug to YOU.

Try these instructions to run a traceroute on a PC:
    http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/2959046
That will help us see if and where any problems may be. This is from you to SMUGMUG.

To run a traceroute on a Mac, follow the instructions here:
    http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/3073291
Copy and paste the results to us in an email. This is also from you to SMUGMUG, but instructions for a Mac.

Let us know the results, and we'll do our best to get you fixed up, or pointed in the right direction to get your issue solved.

Dear Steve, many thanks for this help! Today, everything is working perfectly, so I cannot debug the problem -- it might just have been some temporary slowdown somewhere in the network between me and your site... I will keep this information in case there is trouble again. Many thanks! Luca
