The pet shop owner gave me this pack of Lizard food. Usually 12, but there were just 3 still alive so she let me have them for nothing.

They are, she said, locusts.

Great subjects, relatively docile while I photographed them but it begs the question, what the hell do I do with 3 locusts?

Here are two of them on a stem:

Nice creatures. I think they are all females, and 2 look alike, but one has a darker head. Maybe different species, I don't know.

I guess they are desert locusts of some description.

Good shots- I'd keep them for a while - think they only need grass and warmth - you could then start breeding them in competition with the pet store :)

    Are they "desert locusts"?

Or if some other family, any idea which?

Do they feed on grass exclusively or will any leaves do?

Paul - you'd do better doing a google on them. I know we used to breed locusts at school and all they got fed was grass but that was an awful long time ago :)

Hi Paul, I had a look at a description of a few locust's and each said the food was similar... "grass", one also noted they would eat beans and other grasses such as alph alpha as well.

You probably got plenty of that in your front and back yard right? rolleyes1.gif

They have really nice bands on their eyes, was nice that they didn't hope all over the place so you could photograph them.

    Lovely series clap.gif ... Skippy :D
