Taken on the beach in Santa Monica last September on the day before my birthday. I guess I'd always wondered how birds scratched the back of their heads. :scratch :huh

They probably spike the streetlights on the pier because seagulls crap all over everything.

Taken with a Kodak EasyShare DX4530 (it would be another 6 months before I bought my Canon). C&C always welcome (and encouraged).

I'm not up on my Cali gulls but that is a gull. I know you were shooting with a point and shoot but when shooting birds with much white plumage, you have to be careful not to overexpose the whites. That is what happened here. If you have now moved up to a Canon DSLR, you can dial back the exposure value to help compensate for the bright sunlight on the white plumage. It's all about practice. I still blow the whites more often than not.
