I used a gorillapod, mounted not very securely, and the roads are not exactly smooth either.
Shutter control was with the remote shutter, I had set the camera etc., before starting the vehicle.
As for affording 4x4 well she sips diesel and the highway FE is 35mpg, as for city rush hour traffic its a dismal 23-25mpg.

really cool shots, but the angles are a bit much. i had to break my neck to look at the photos right side up!

the "warp speed" effect is always cool though.
