Much to my suprise this hawker dragonfly visited again on Sunday in the light rain. All shots ISO800 natural light except the last shot (full flash).

Fantastic shots Lord V. Can I ask were you using extension tubes or something else as well as the 105?

I have a 400D and the Sigma 105 and I KNOW my camera and lens are capable of such shots. It's just me that isn't at the moment.. hehehe :)

The first 4 shots are just the sigma 105 with no ext tubes. The last shot was taken with an MPE-65 lens but only around 2:1.

Thanks for the kind comments :)- much appreciated.

TRP - was rather pleased with the way these came out. First time I've worn an Ossie bush hat while photographing - to keep the drizzle off the camera.

Thanks Brian :). I think the subjects I'm finding are a bit too small. Need to get out to a canal and try and photograph something a touch larger with a bigger face :)

    Hi Brian,

The last two are a real treat! Wonderful captures! Was your "victim" being compliant? :D

Curious: what's the MWD (min. working distance) from the front element on the Sigma 105?

    Regards,
    Marc

I've spotted what I suspect is the same Southern Hawker dragonfly in the garden three times now this year and it does seem fairly laid back as long as you are careful.

The sigma 105mm mfd is about 4.5" in front of the end of the lens body (the lens is actually recessed about 1")
