Were those bolts really close? or way off in the distance Christina?
That first lightning bolt is a beauty look how much more the sky is lit up.
Dunno that I'd want to be that close to water and lightning at the same time......... good captures .... Skippy

:skippy Everyone has the right to be stupid, but some people just abuse the privilege :dgrin
Well done.
Love that first one, excellent bolt, the foreground's great, and the color is fantastic!

I just used long shutter speeds. The storm had fairly consistent lightning so I just kept shooting. The first image was the very first bolt I captured. I like the second shot because of the reflection of the bolt in the pool.
Skippy - The lightning was just close enough to capture, but not too close. I'm a big chicken about those things.
You've had the best storm there is. The one that comes in close enough to shoot, but doesn't rain on you or strike too near.
I remember shooting a very active cell a year ago on a high roof top. A couple of huuuuge bolts skimmed the belly of the cloud over my head. I was thinking "If it hits right there, I'm dead. If it hits over there, I'm gonna go deaf. If it hits way over there, I'll get the shot of a lifetime. And somebody get me a fisheye!"
The best hit I managed to capture was quite distant, but lit up the whole vast cloud. In the end the storm just grazed my location. I climbed down from the roof the second the rain drops started coming in.

Note to self, dont go over there during a storm:D

Eia - Thanks. I was under the patio overhang. I did use a tripod and a remote.
Aaron - I try to stay away from that area. Lightning always hits there.
p27rpy - I know that feeling! This is the first time I was in the right place at the right time.
Next time I shoot lightning out back, I'm gonna have to try this. Course, first I need a pool.
