Fast Pancake lens for Canon?
Hiya,
I'm not in a rush to purchase, but would definitely like to find out more about pancake lens options for my Canon 400D... I was really impressed by the Olympus 25mm f2.8 pancake and was wondering what I should be looking for if I wanted to achieve something similar with my Canon?
Fast is what I'm after (at least f2.8), then size (pancake), and I'm wanting something on wide side of life (love the 17mm although it fisheyes a tad)... I know nothing about lens adapters either.
Any advice? Ta!

I'm totally a beginner and leaving my 35mm has been hugely helpful in forcing me to *make* photographs instead of just taking them. I think a "flat" 28mm to walkaround with would be fun. No?
You could possibly fit the manual focus AI-S 45/2.8 that Nikon made some years ago, if you can find it and the adapter for it.
The smallest and lightest lenses you can get for EF start with the 50/1.8 mkII, then the 35/2, 28/1.8... there's the 85/1.8 which isn't exactly tiny anymore and Sigma carries the 30/1.4. I have the latter two - they are fabulous. I've had and sold the 50/1.8 mkII- I didn't like it much, I've heard the mark ones were better.
My 0.02 €, I'm sure there are more options out there, these are the first to hit my mind

Want one!

Pentax actually has three: 21mm f/3.2, 40mm f/2.8, and a 70mm f/2.4.
The answer might end up being "Canon PowerShot G9"

Sorry, it's not very "fast".

I picked one up when getting some other stuff from them, It's truely terrible. The lenses are plastic and look like they've been melted after installing. Wide open (f5.6!!!) The pictures from it suck so bad I don't think I've ever kept any of them,
Although at f64 it's just on the slightly acceptable side of bad. essentially a pinhole camera.
But hey, it's small!!
While it's not as thin as the Oly both are relatively small and offer about a 50mm lens field of view in terms for 35mm film/full frame format.
The adapter is available somewhere:

Theoretically it would allow those wonderful Pentax pancakes to work on your Canon body. I would research how much functionality would exist.
The 40mm pancake is very sweet. Nice renditions and sharp.

Was discussing this very question with a buddy yesterday. I did a quick search and found this for sale from adorama - a 40mm f2 pancake. Manual focus, but supposedly lets the camera control the aperture if you set the apeture ring to f22 (this is in the page copy under features - not sure if it makes sense)
No clue what sort of images it creates - might check flicker and search by lens used...
Happy pancake flippin'! (where's the real maple syrup?)

I want one too. The closest thing is a 28 2.8 or 35 f2. That is, if you want AF and/or Canon brand. Holga stuff and pinhole are other options, and adapters. But no real Canon solution
