I saw it on TV and i am speechless. Though missed 1 hour from middle but enjoyed a lot. What an event i hope i was there as a photographer :wink. I love opening ceremonies because of cultural touch. Looks like i am on my way to china (Kashgar) by road next year :wink

What are your thoughts ?

Due to commercial television wishing for the largest audience, (and to charge for advertisements), it will not air on television until this evening, local time, here in the US. It is about 130pm here on the east coast now.

But after your comments, I will be sure to watch!

Wow, that was incredible...the number of performers and the blending of technology was cool. Was amazed to at the price tag: $300M

The show was no less than spectacular, but nothing on this scale is ever without controversies. In this case, it involves fake fireworks. So far I really like the stromotion photos.

I don't know why there would be any controversy over the animation. At least to those of us watching in the US, the announcers on NBC specifically said that the sequenced that showed the fireworks across Beijing was animation.

In fact, they used the sequence to discuss the production quality that went into the whole thing, including the animation and its timing to the real fireworks, where a few of the footprints were in fact real, timed to go off with the ending of the sequence.

    Guess Sky missed this...

I bet the people working on the 2012 Olympics in London and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada all gulped when they saw this opening!

Even with animated fireworks (didn't know, don't care), I have never seen anything like this in my life. Watching the entire ceremony live in HD was an experience I will never forget ...

How wonderful it would have been to be there and see it live!
