Bibble is a highly regarded Raw converter which gives great results and has some awesome plugins available.

The UI can be kind of clunky, and some now-standard features, such as multiple undoes and versioning, are absent.

The good news is that Bibblelabs has announced that v5 will be available by the end of the year. New purchasers of 4 will get a free upgrade to 5.

Bibble has been around longer than most and is a very impressive product. I agree about the current UI (its nothing to write home about). Hopefully the next version will get some eye candy. Better to have great functionary first, which Bibble has. Unlike nearly all other Raw converters I'm aware of, the plug-in's mentioned actually work WITHIN the Raw processing pipeline. That's what we really need and want. If you look at say Aperture, its plug-in processing is happening AFTER rendering so there isn't much difference there compared to opening the image in Photoshop and running filters. Bibble does this at the Raw stage. It gets a big thumbs up for that approach.

You should also check out the Bibble forums at support.bibblelabs.com. The developers post pretty frequently there and are very responsive to questions.

Nearly bought Bibble lite. Great software, and loved the Noise Ninja that is included. But Lightroom was a better UI, much better DAM, and far better workflow.

i bought bibble and used it for a short amount of time before i discovered lightroom. bibble is good as a raw converter and that's about it, IMO. lightroom has a superior workflow, an easier to use GUI, and is much faster.

i'm interested to see how bibble v5 seeing that it's a free upgrade for current users.

Bibble 4 is a great RAW converter, and that is all it ever was supposed to be.
The UI is anything but fancy but after a while one does discover its advantages - and then it is anything but slow. I believe some people are overly impressed by sleek appearances. I certainly have tried LR1 (got it for free as a RawShooter owner) but it never appeared easier to use or more intuitive to me than bibble.

Anyhow, it seems bibble 5 will have a fancier look, DAM features - while not forcing you to use its database, regional editing (likely a bit similar to Lightzone), versions, and a choice of plugins, that like the ones for version 4, are integrated into the RAW conversion pipeline. The hints of the authors seem to indicated superior performance on multi-core processors - for what its worth.
The current price includes an upgrade to version 5. At $ 130 it could be a real bargain.

    Thoughts on Bibble Raw Converter?
    So you guys and gals,

In order to use Lightroom do you need PS CS3?

I was looking at Bibble because beside being a good program it has profiles for both my cameras. I am using CS2 and it's raw converter covers one but not my other camera and I do not wanted to upgrade right now. I tried downloading Adobe dng converter, but it did not work. I like the idea of an independant converter away from image processing software.

I do not have a problem with the Bibble UI, but again I am coming from the DOS years! thumb.gif

    Thanks for your time,

No, Lightroom is standalone, you do not need CS3 at all. In fact, while I have CS3, I only use it rarely, maybe on 2% of images now.

there is a free trail on Adobe's website, that is really the best thing to do: try it yourself.

Got to see Bibble 5 in action at PPE (the show I moderated called Iron Raw Chef where Eric of the company was on my panel). Looks very, very good and useful. I'm a Lightroom guy but intend to upgrade my copy of V5 when it ships. And yes, its very, very fast.
