Food shots

Not sure if this belongs in this forum, but I don't see anything closer so here'goes.

I was asked to shoot some food shots for a local restraurant, and thought I'd share a couple of the results. I've never shot food before, but they seemed to really like the images so they may ask me back again. Any Comments, suggestions or criticism eagerly desired!!

#1: The first thing they wanted me to shoot was a plate of Mexican chilaquiles and eggs. On the first attempt, the plat looked great but the chilaquiles basically looked like a plate of slop! We asked them to remake the plate, and this is what they provided. Much better, but I'll leave it up to you how appetizing this looks...

#2 and #3: Same plate, different perspectives

#4: Next was the french toast plate

#5: Same plate

Thanks for looking!

Hi Phil, I just ate, but I think I'm hungry again hahaha! rolleyes1.gif
You should post larger images too, 800x600 is plenty big enough.
These are rather small, but they do look good thumb.gif ... Skippy :D

These are a little small to maybe draw final conclusions, but a good portion of each picture appears to be out of focus. Look through any food magazine and you will see that all of the food shown is tack sharp. Fuzzy background is OK but everything on the plate should be really clear.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Laughing.gif Thanks, Skippy. The images are pretty small - I posted them at work and didn't realize how small they were. Here are two of them at a more normal size.

Thank you both. I went digging through a bunch of food photography in magazines and online before this shoot, and it seemed that most tended to use depth of field shallow enough to catch the most important elements of the plate in tack focus, while the rest of the plate and background was in bokah. I tried to mimic that style.

But you both make a good point. I'm not sure if that's what was "best" - or merely what was "popular". <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/ne_nau.gif" border="0" alt="" >

I think the next time I do a shoot for them I'll try a few both ways and see what looks best.

Thanks again for looking and making suggestions!! :D

You make some good back points. :D

Your homework provided you with very nice reference I am sure. I would
do same just to see which way the winds blew. You a have good level
of bokeh in your shots. I would watch for foreground OUF. I think not
what you want in this case.

Again, great color, sharpness, and composition. Sweeet. :D
