Hi Everyone,
I am a newcomer to posting on these forums (except support).
Thought I would give in and finally post something. I've been quite busy with a wildlife photo competition, so everything was put on hold for a while! Does anyone know this species of butterfly? Just a straight conversion from RAW, using ACR defaults (ie. no additional sharpening). The original image:
The crop - it's not quite at 100%:
I hope you enjoy it!
Cheers,
Marc

I think that butterfly is a great spangled fritillary, speyeria cybele. Does it's range match your location?
Good shot, though I'd like to see some real backrounds

It does match my location - taken in my front garden...
Seriously, I am in NW Arkansas. It was a good size - in the range of the swallowtails, perhaps slightly larger. Believe it or not, that's one of the few macros I've taken that has a black background.
Cheers,
Marc

Considering how old this post is, you hardly need the ID any more, but it looks a lot like a Great Spangled Fritillary (Speyeria cybele)
Have a look at:

I have no idea about butterflies. Just found this link by searching for butterfly images.

Hi Marc, glad your not lurking anymore and have finally posted
Beautiful butterfly, I think Pyry is on the mark with the ID,
it does indeed look like a Great Spangled Fritillary
Those pretty pink colours enhance the patterns on the wing.
Nice and sharp Marc.... well now that your not a lurker anymore,
we wanna see more of your work okay ... Skippy
