I typed up a big long post to see if anyone knew anything and then I found the answer myself thanks to Google. Instead, I think I'll just give people a heads up:

There's a bug in Lightroom 2.0 for people who upgraded from Version 1.4 to Version 2.0. Any keywords that were created on your Verison 1.4 catalog will NOT display when you export to JPG.

What this means, is that when you upload your images to smugmug, the keywords you created may not show up! Adobe is currently working on a fix. More information can be found at:

http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?14@@.59b5f7c6/0

I know it's not SmugMug related, but I thought since people might start writing a post like I did (thinking it was a SmugMug bug) they would instead find the info in this thread.

Wow. Thanks for the head's up. My LR 2.0 just arrived and I was debating whether to install it or wait for the first round of bugs to be fixed. Once again, it does not pay to go early with new LR releases. Definitely worth waiting a few weeks to see what bugs get found. I got burned with the 1.4 release before, not going to get burned with 2.0.

I'll be waiting now - at least for more dust to settle. The Adobe thread says that a work-around script will be forthcoming from Adobe support probably early next week. I'll read how that goes before going forward.

I found 2 work arounds that work with Lightroom 2.0 and correctly export the Keywords:

    1) When exporting (from the File --> Export ...) make sure to select the "Write Keywords as Lightroom Hierachy" from the "Metadeta" section of export.

    2) Check out http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.59b5fbd8 where they describe a "hack" in which you can use an SQL editor to update the Lightroom catalog file to properly export your keywords.

I tried both of these options and both worked great!

Since I haven't yet installed LR2, I'd rather wait for a proper LR2 fix than be SQL hacking on my catalog. It sounds like Adobe is working on the real fix so I can wait a little while longer for the new features of LR2.

Here's the just released technote on how to patch your catalog after you've upgraded to LR2: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb405074&sliceId=2.

Well I found the answer to my problems:

It was a bug in moving my Lightroom catalog from 1.4 to 2.0, the fix is described here and works:
