Alright well I'm getting married in 2 months and so we've been looking for a wedding photographer that fits within out budget (not much). Our friends Katy and Joe got married 2 years ago and used a friend of Katy's as their photographer. She did a great job and charged them only $500. Well my fiance calls the girl yesterday and her price has jumped to $1500 in only a year.
Over the past few months, I've seen probably hundreds of wedding photographers web sites featuring their photography - a lot of which I am definitely NOT impressed with and they're charging upwards of $3000. A lot of the time it looks to me like they put the camera on "Priority Mode", handed it to their retarded cousin, and said "GO"...then took the photos, slapped them on their website and called it "professional work" that apparently is worth paying $2000-3000 for. I don't get it, why are so many people paying for this crap? and more importantly, how can i get in on this!?
I'm seriously thinking about doing weddings on the side - hell if I can make even $1000 a pop, what am I waiting for? I know I can do better than half the junk I've seen on these wedding photographers sites.

The mere fact that *you*, being a an educated person, do your homework and despise most of the "junk-wedding-photogrpahy" doesn't change the fact that 95% of the brides have no idea what to look for and are probably happy with anything that is printed on a glossy paper and put in a hardbound album with the white doves on the cover.
Don't waste your time and nerves ranting about poor quality guys. Find the one whose work you like and pay the price. Good quality and consitency doesn't come cheap. Remember, it's your *wedding*, you won't have a reshoot in two weeks.
