Hi Y'all,

Not the greatest captures but interesting behavior

The opsrey was just minding his own business

when a red winged black bird came along

I guess he wasn't happy having the osprey hanging out in the neighborhood because

After the blackbird had made 7-8 runs at him the poor osprey, with frayed nerves, made a hasty retreat.

Well, I dunno, Harry. it almost looks like the Osprey is thinking "what is that silly little so and so trying to pull?'. The 'expression' on the Osprey's face approaches bemused!

    Cool series. Thanks for sharing.

Great series, Harry. Typical behaviour and you've caught it well. I've seen the same thing with kingbirds pestering ospreys until they left the perch but never was able to record it as you have. Well done.

Cool series Harry, and well caught! I've seen the crows do that to the black kites incessantly in Japan.

Awesome images as always Harry. Seems so funny when you look at the size difference. I am always amazed when I see the smaller birds giving the larger raptors "heck" thumb.gifthumb.gif

You know that's just evil posting that. Don't be surprised if I post a series with a night heron being attacked by grackles. eek7.gif:D Quite the behavioral action series Harry. Nice job..although I think I'd be taking shots of the RWBB with another "tool". rolleyes1.gif I have a sequence of a poor osprey flying back to it's nest with nesting material (moss) being chased by 5 or so grackles. I think those annoying little birds will give any RWBB a run for it's money. Not only have I seen those bahstuds chase my ospreys..They have run me out of areas before. Evil birds indeed.

Thanks Ann, the osprey eventually flew off as the harassment from the blackbird wouldn't stop. I've seen this a number of times with raptors being chased off by much smaller birds. I never saw one that lasted a slong as this one did.

    Great series Harry,

I have seen RWBB harass hawks in flight as well, and am always amazed at their chutzpah.

Thanks Harv, the length of the blackbird's continuing harassment of the osprey allowed me to capture some decent images.

Great series ... the expression on the raptor's face in #7 is just begging for a caption but I can't think of a good one at the moment. Maybe someone else is feeling a bit more creative?

That is a very cool series! Best I've ever had was a single pass of a Baltimore Oriole on a Bald Eagle, but it came nowhere near these for clarity! Great shots!

Not to worry Mike, the osprey survived. :D Grackles are probably the worst offenders when it comes to raptor harassment.
